Navigation: Map Update

Yeaterday I went to BMW dealer and ask for an updated map. I though it was in the BSI (BMW Inclusive Service) which is 5 years free mainteneace in Thailand.
Surprise!! They asked for $450 to update the map by using a DVD but. I did not do it yet
DO YOU PAY for this update?

It's based off your VIN. There's ppl who can sell it to you for like $75-$100. I believe there's a guy selling them in that thread I posted.

Thanks Brian! I guess I will have to figure the most optimal way to get the dvd's and the code as there seems to be little action here in AZ regarding such stuff as I tried looking for someone who had done some coding to no avail .

Cheers!

For E89 owners here - have anyone of you updated your 09 / 10 with the provided MAP SW and the FSC code from someone in Europe? I called around locally to a well known BMW shop but they told me that using their BMW connected system, I will have to pay 1.5 labor hrs to get the FSC code.

Those with the update - what difference did you notice in the maps and POI's??

TIA

People get confused about updates. There are two types:

The first is a software update, this affects functionality (and yes they did darken the screen a little). This is a paid update if the customer wishes the update, however many people get it for free if the car is being updated for warranty reasons.

The second type of update is map data, this is not a software update and as it is not made by BMW you must pay for new map data.

Update: Contacted Sergej based on the recommendations. The dude is fantastic! I was a bit apprehensive xferring monies, however the code was e-mailed in minutes of sending monies and I installed the new files that I downloaded from one of the board members on the M3 forum. Now I have 2012 maps! Yay!

For those of you who have been using the maps - have you noticed anything different? I cannot see 3D Panoramic buildings however the map is like a single point perspective view.
