Unhappy My first scratch...

I know...

it was only a matter of time... but compounding the pain was the knowledge that my own stupidity caused it.

Anyway it was small and, at its starting point, deep enough to feel with my fingernail. After researching a couple of repair methods... I decided to give Dr. Colorchip a try.

Intended more for small stone chips, I figured it couldn't hurt to try the process on a scratch. Before & after pictures are attached.

Verdict: I couldn't be happier! (especially for <$50 and 5 minutes work)

There's no remedy for carelessness but the Dr. certainly made me feel better.

The repair looks good. I have been debating trying that product on one of our other vehicles. Looks ways easier than breaking out the touch up gun and blending panels.

I guess it depends on the type of damage... but for my scratch, it worked well.

After the repair, you can only tell that there was a mishap when examining it from a certain angle (where you can see that the paint finish was marred) since the Dr. Colorchip paint doesn't fill the scratch completely. Looking at it straight on - I had a hard time finding the blemish... and I knew where to look.

I think this process works best with fairly small, very shallow chips or scratches.

All told, I was impressed. Unusual for me, since I tend to be pretty cynical of these type products.

One thing is for sure... it couldn't have been easier to use.

Would you recommend using this over getting say a clear bra (3M film/Ventureshield) on your front bumper/bonnet?

I am thinking of getting the bra on the bumper but not the bonnet.

With respect to a bra, I can't really make a recommendation one way or the other... I've never used one. (oh... the direction this thread could go)

I do know, however, that unless I did a full body wrap, a bra wouldn't have prevented my scratch as it was on the left rear qtr panel. Also, it may have been sharp enough to have penetrated the film.

All I can say is... if you have a small, shallow chip or scratch... you may want to try this solution. It's cheap, easy, and for me anyway... yielded great results.

Consider yourself lucky man, Ive had my car keyed 3 times already. And somebody drove into my passenger side bumper (front bottom) or looks like a rock was taken there. Idk whether or not I should even fork over the cash to fix my problems. People have no respect these days
