It is a lease and you are correct that the RFT's will be reinstalled when it is turned in. Looking at either the Continental allseason's 235-35-19 & 265-30-19 or the Toyo Proxes-4 in the same sizes. I don't mind giving up a slight amount of at limit dry traction in a street car for more secure year round traction.

The DWS is not a dedicated winter or snow tire. It is an all season tire. The Portland area is pretty hilly and we do dip down below 40 degrees in the winter time. So if you want to drive the Zed in the winter the DW isn't the way to go. Unless you want a dedicated winter setup and run the DW in the summer only. Personally I think the hassle of running a dedicated winter setup in Portland isn't worth it. So IMHO the DWS is a good compromise tire. If you want all out performance then no this isn't the tire to get. Get a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3 that pull 1g on the skidpad.

Proxes 4 are currently on sale at Les Schwab. I was quoted $1061.78 for everything, tires, mounting, balancing, valve stem etc. for size 225/35ZR/19 front 265/30ZR/19 rear. The Proxes have a traction rating of AA where the DWS has only an A rating. However, the Proxes buy this extra stickiness with lower treadwear rating of only 300 compared to 540 for the Contis. Also, there are many reports that even though the Proxes are touted as an all season tire they are crap in even the slightest hint of snow. The DWS aren't exceptional in snow, but better than the Proxes. Not sure about the Les Schwab warranty, but the Contis have a one year free replacement warranty as long as tread is above 2/32. Also, you get a free GPS with the Contis right now if you care for that.

I you go with the Conti's take Treaddepot.com pricing to America's Tire/Discount tire. They will price match. Treaddepot has a $60 instant rebate that bring their price to $777 including shipping plus a free GPS. Still have to pay mount & balance but you should be under $900 total.

My BMW service manager (and I have a lot of respect for his knowledge) recommended Continentals. I thought I pass this on to you. Mind you he was talking RFT little does he know once my RFT are done I never ever go back to RFT no matter what he recommends.

I will have a closer look at the Michelin 3 before I make up my mind.

I know the Conti's are the rage now, but look at the Michelin survey number size on tirerack.com. One of the tires (either rank No. 2 or 3 now, was no 1) is in the millions. When the Conti's hit that number of survey respondents and they're still No. 1 then I'd say they effectively dislodged the Michelin's from the top rank. Until then I'm sold on Michelin's. I've had both brands and Michelin hasn't let me down, plus I like the ride and the way they handle.

I too am sold on Michelins and the PS3s are probably the best tire out there and then the PS2s. I just save a few hundred and thought I would try the Contis. The Continentals DWs are great so I cannot even imagine how great the Michelins must be on the e89.

This makes me think of how different/even better many of the car reviews and comparisons would be for the e89 if BMW would just run a proper tire on it from the get go. THE RFTs are truly holding this car back from greatness - problem solved, RFTs are gone and greatness has been achieved with ease.
