Some quick thoughts on Dunlop Direzza ZII

Hey guys,

I installed the Dunlop Direzza ZII yesterday in 235/40/18 and 265/35/18 size on the OEM style 325 18" wheels. Stock adaptive suspension with -0.9 degrees front camber and -1.6 degrees rear camber.

Wanted to share some quick thoughts in case others are thinking about these tires
  • Road noise: Much worse than stock. This is not a quiet commuter tire. In fact I think the noise will be tiresome on long freeway trips
  • Steering Feel: Feels a bit less precise at turn-in than the factory RFT, and it tramlines a bit. Not a big deal.
  • Wet Grip: Seems ok in the wet. I expect puddles taken at highway speeds will cause hyrdoplaning and I will be proceeding with caution
  • Dry Grip: As expected, the dry grip from these competition oriented tires is very good. Some tests have put the lateral g forces at 1.06g and there is a very noticeable improvement. This was one of the key criteria for me, so I am very happy with the tires
  • Sizing: The tires run wider than the listed specification, so I wouldn't run any wider on the stock wheels. I think may be some rub in front when the wheels are significantly turned and the suspension is fully compressed

I need to test the heat resistance before passing final judgement. *should* be a good streetable HPDE tire.

Overall, I would only recommend these to forum members who are prioritizing dry grip over all other attributes. The noise and hydroplaning risk are big drawbacks to take on if you aren't planning to fully exploit the dry grip

I don't have a telemetry package or VBOX so I won't be able to report back with high precision.

The best I'd be able to do is one of those "g-meters" that use iPhone accelerometer (ie pretty crap data)
