oil consumption
how many miles do you go between top offs?
I get that this like asking about MPG and that how the owner drives the car affects oil consumption but am curious all the same I use about 1qt every 6500 miles. My 35i is stock but thoroughly enjoyed every day |

That sounds about right. I'm usually at 7K. Pretty normal

Zero. In the three years I've owned the car, I've never had to top-up my oil. I drive approximately 12,000kms annually. Dave

I burned 1 quart during the first 5,000 miles, and haven't burned any since, though I change my oil every 6,500 to 7,500 miles. I just reached 30k miles.

People keep complaining about the lack of dip stick. Try to find a dip stick on an airplane. they're all electronic just like BMW and that's the standard for the industry. I'm good with it.

If you are really concerned, send the old oil off for an oil analysis the next time you change it.

appearance from dipstick is pretty much meaningless also, dipstick readings can be flawed too because of things like the angle at which the dipstick goes into the oil, level of the parking space. Personally, I would rather have the sensor. I think when it fluctuates between bars it is due to rounding when the value is displayed. When the thing says +1qt I snap to it and pour in the oil! |

Same place as the hand crank starter, drum brakes, slide rules, corded phones, tube radios, B&W TV, ....etc. What are they good for absolutely nothing! GONE!!! Now if only we could say the same for WAR!
