Anyone get it to work w/ a *non-rolling code* garage opener, i.e. prehistoric one w/o the 'learn' button? I tried everything, following the manual step-by-step, looking at the homelink site....can't do it.

Try programming the button in the car from the handheld opener. That way when you press the button in the car it transmits the same code as the handheld. Hold the remote unit right in front of the mirror when you do it(there's a little spot in the glass that is a sensor)

PS: All my handhelds still work and so do the homelinks in my cars....

Are you referring to the little spot on the mirror itself? Isn't that the auto-dimming sensor? Or are you referring to the back of the mirror the squarish white plastic thing surrounded by the black casing...or the rain sensor area on the windshield? Thx.

I had to hold my remote up to the little spot on the mirror, about 2 inches away. Right or wrong, it worked like a charm.

After programming the mirror button I could then do the "learn" thing on the door operator (but you won't have to with an oldie)

I'm beginning to wonder if this homelink is compatible w/ an 'oldie' since no one w/ one did it successfully so far.

I had an oldie before this house and the one before that. My volvo was fine. homelink is homelink. Just try doing what I suggested , program the button in the car from a handheld remote... By the way, the ignition has to be turned on for the homelink buttons to work

Maybe the battery in your remote is running low. Try a fresh battery.

If all else fails, have your dealer help out. The oldie openers just needs the functioning remote and does not require you to be near your door opener.

Before I switched out my oldie opener with the newer one, I had the dealer program my homelink transmitter 60 miles away from my home in my old '09 Expedition Limited. It worked out well.

I dont have any buttons for garage open/close on rearview mirror. I thought this option was standard on all bmws. Surprised its not there.
Neither do the mirrors dim.

I just programmed my 2009 E89; "Learn" button on the garage door unit (same vintage as the car as it happens) worked fine, in seconds. Could NOT get the handheld opener to work at all with the buttons on the mirror.

NO - I have a little one-button "opener". No matter what I did with that (hold it close to the mirror, far, behind, in front...etc) it would not respond.

I went into the garage, hit the learn button and then the #1 button on my mirror...and ...done! That easy, and done in about 15 seconds.

Not sure what you mean by the keypad (other than the wired one on the outside of my garage..?)

My problem was trying to figure out whether it was "fixed code" or "alternating code" (apparently it turned out to be the latter).

I'll have to see if I can find a manual for my opener to see if I have a learn button.

Thanks

Just look at the business side of the unit in the garage...there's generally at least one wire or a switch on the unit..and frequently a button marked "learn". On a Chamberlain it's usually purple or bright green. They are generally quite obvious.

Press the Learn button on the unit, run to the car within 30 sec and press the button on the car and hold it until (IIRC) quick blinks happen (but check the manual). Let go. Done.

Google "learn button on garage door control" and go to "images" - lots of pix there of learn buttons so you have an idea of what you're looking for.

I had to get a compatibility bridge for my z4 to work with my liftmaster garage door opener.

https://www.amazon.com/LiftMaster-855lm-Homelink-Repeater-Kit/dp/B01GWD4LUI?crid=2DAIKF2DE2ODB&keywords=chamberlain +compatibility+bridge&qid=1529433270&sprefix=chamb erlain+comp&sr=8-2-fkmrnull&ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmrnull_2

Once installed, the car linked right up and works.

Thanks for the tip. I wound up calling HOMELINK and they had me buy a compatibility bridge as well to communicate between my opener and my mirror buttons.

It worked and now have a functional mirror button.

[QUOTE=Wcollins;6754969]Are there any tricks to getting the garage door linked to the car? I'm sure its a non rocket scientist task but I have reviewed the instruction in the manual several times and followed step by step and still cannot get the car to link up. I have a Lexus and Toyoto Tundra that can do it in a couple of clicks and the instructions are easy and plain but it seem BMW tried to make it as complicated as possible. Maybe its the car, me or plain ole bad luck. Anyone else having this problem?

I understand the frustration with linking your garage door to your BMW. Confirm you're following the manual precisely. If issues persist, ensure your garage door opener is compatible. Additionally, some BMW models may have specific nuances; consulting the dealership or BMW customer support can provide model-specific guidance.
