Amount of Power and Torque the DCT can handle?

I heard that it can only handle up to 370 wtq or so?

Is this true or did I misunderstand something?

Cause if it is...downpipes+FMIC+Tune would be useless...

Garage List
2011 Z4 35is  [9.00]
I don't know the real number but it has to be more than 370tq. The 3.5is in overboost is knocking on the door to that number. The number I have heard floating around but yet to confirm is around 450tq.

The dct in the e89 is supposed to be the Getrag Powershift 7DC1600. You might be able to find it through Google. I don't have a link. Its the same dct in the e90/92 M3 (I don't have a link for that either but remember reading it). Max torque capacity is listed as 600 NM - - about 440 lb ft, I think.

Well I did a search on google and such and that's where I got the 370 from

and I'm referring to 370wtq

not just 370tq at the crank

Thanks for the links

Bad news, the DCT capability makes me let alone the idea of installing meth kit. I wish I have bought manual tranny.

The manual gearbox designation in the 35i is the 'G-gearbox", rated at 600 Nm, approx. 442 lb-ft which is approx. 372 torqs at the wheel. The M3 DCT gearbox designation is different than the Z4 DCT. The Getrag website only lists one plausible 7 speed powershift DCT model, whose spec is 700 Nm, approx 516 torqs. Their model number is neither the M3 or Z4s. Other than understanding the rated torque is a percentage of capability based on testing/rating criteria, warranty, intended service life, and any other liabilty limiting factors, I have to except the fuzz on these specs

I thought the 35is wasn't available with a manual box, because it wouldn't be able to handle the extra torque.

they didn't put a 6MT in there purely for marketing IIRC

BMW M-DCT training manual calls it GS7D36SG and says the transmittable torque rating is 520 Nm. realoem.com calls the DCT in both M3 and Z4 with same model name but different part number.

I believe manual power capacity is way higher compared to that DCT. Honestly I don't like how this transmission works at all. It takes to long to switch from Driving to Rear, you can also hear some cracking sounds of it.

Do you have all those mods on your car? I'm still waiting for parts to be shipped.

They say that GETRAG deliberately lowers the numbers to be on the safe side...

I'm sure it'll be cheaper to trade in a DCT car and get a Manual one then to do a swap
