The 296's I would bet are absolutely not forged. They are OEM BMW wheels, and again, BMW wheels are outsource to high-end aftermarket producers (BBS, Ronal, Cromodora, etc) and they use low-pressure cast. In fact, I think it is safe to say 95% of OEM alloy wheels are low-pressire cast. Like jparnes mentioned, it is more of a design flaw because in the 296.2, there didn't seem to be any more reported cracks. No official statement on this, though.

For my information, Moo, I thought low-pressure cast was stronger and more ductile than high-pressure cast wheels?
