DCT Question - Startup Sound Normal?
This is for the DCT folks. Having never had one before, not sure what sounds are normal and which aren't.
When I start the car, there's a very slight 1/2 second sound that comes from under the car (I'm assuming its from the tranny) at the very end of the startup sequence. Sounds like gears 'clinking' or 'clanking' (admittedly, hard to describe) and then immediately disappears. Sequence goes: button pressed, engine fires (vahmooommm), then quick 'clink' right after that, then all running smooth. Mind you, that entire thing happens in a mere few seconds. I'm guessing it's the DCT coming to life, just want to know if others with it hear the same thing. Also, I'm in an enclosed garage, which amplifies everything. I listened for it while outside, and while there, it's MUCH less noticeable. Doubt anyone would hear it if they weren't listening for it when the car's outside. THanks for any thoughts! |

May have answered my own question. Just listened to two different YouTube videos of an IS starting up - both videos had the sound I'm describing. Seems like it is indeed normal.

HAHAHAHAHA alright, good to know. Coming from a life of manuals (almost 20 years) I guess it will take some getting used to .
