switching to a smaller wheel and square tire setup?

Hey guys,

I've been thinking about moving from the stock 19" wheels to a 17" setup with something like a 255/40/17 square setup to reduce weight, tire replacement cost and gain access to sticker street tires like Dunlop Star Spec, Kumho XS, etc

Seems like a win on many levels (other than perhaps looks)

Tried to search around the forums but haven't found anything. Has anyone done this?

I saw a Z4, newer, with 15" steel wheels with Smoothie hub caps and white wall tires.

He must like it that way....

Is this any help?

Mine came new with the following 17" size.

"Light Alloy Wheels Turbine Styling 292 17" with mixed tyres"
"Option Code" 2AE

Fronts:- 225/45RF17 91W
Rears:- 255/40RF17 94W

FWIW, ride on (original) Bridgestone RFTs was hard and uncomfortable. Ride on (replacement) Continental SSRs is a great improvement.

Despite the fact that they 'look' far more attractive, I am not tempted by larger wheels.

Just so long as I refrain from vainly looking in shop windows for reflections, I can't see the wheels when I'm driving so it doesn't bother me
