Extended Warranty Discounts - Best Dealer?

For those of you not leasing, has anyone purchased or tried to negotiate an extended warranty with a BMW dealer? I am trying to get pricing on one of the new BMW platinum warranties that covers just about all components including NAV. I would be interested in recommendations and pricing. Thanks.

I am back. Spent the day clearing 2 feet of snow from my driveway, alley behind my house and sidewalk in front. I'm so looking forward to spring. I've received one quote, $2360 for a 7/70 and $2760 for a 7/100. Both are platinum.

How do these "platinum" extended warranties differ from the BMW extended 2yr/50K which gives a total coverage of 6yr/100K. We purchased one of these for my wife's "ceritfied" used 325ci. It covered everything we every asked to be repaired through the years, along with the std maint. schedule. Certainly paid for itself over and over. Ran out of time before miles. Which will probably be the case with the new Z4 as well.

Like you, I will definitely be getting some sort of ext'd warrenty Especially, since I went for the 3.5 and expect the HPFP to go south along the line.

extended warantee - is it just that - or does it also include the Zero Cost Maintenance which comes with new cars of 4 years - 50,000 miles ?

BMW has recently come out with extended warranties at various coverage levels, mileages and times. They are similar to the CPO warranty but the platinum version does cover items that the CPO does not. I believe 7 years and 100K miles is the longest term and highest mileage plan offered. I will likely only drive my Z about 5K miles per year so I am interested in the longest term warranty at the highest level of coverage since I have the Premium pkg and NAV both of which have items that can be expensive to replace or repair. I have sent requests for price quotes to several dealers and am awaiting replies.

Extensions to the free maintenance is a separate issue and requires a separate policy.

What I refer to as the ext'd warranty is the "BMW Maintenance Program Upgrade" For new vehicles, as stated from the BMW website "This upgrade option, when purchased, extends your standard BMW Maintenance Program period by an additional 2 years/50,000 miles, providing a total maintenance program period of 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first. This upgrade option also extends the standard BMW Roadside Assistance Program benefit period by an additional 2 years/unlimited mileage for a total of 6 years/unlimited mileage. " $2100 for MY 2010. My CA told me to expect a 5-10% increase for MY 2011. Considering the normal 25-30K mile bradke job alone it is well worth the cost IMHO.

This is not an extended warranty it is as you state extended maintenance. It will not cover such items as a faulty NAV unit or a failed power window motor. It simply pays to "maintain" your car and will pay for routine maintenance and scheduled items such as oil changes, other fluid changes, brake pads/rotors, etc.

I am more concerned with covering unscheduled repairs as these can be very expensive as opposed to the scheduled maintenance as these are known and can be predicted. An extended warranty is basically an insurance policy, if you use it, it pays for itself, if you don't it cost you money but protects you against unforseen losses and does provide some peace of mind. The key is buying a policy from a reputable vendor. I have been burned twice, once in Texas on a third party policy purchased from a Mitsubishi dealer and again in Maryland on a policy sold by Warranty Gold. I will only buy a policy that is sponsored by the manufacturer or AAA. I have had good experience with policies sold by AAA on a 740iL and a 535. Both did pay for themselves over the life of the policy.

Will do. Wife wants to know why I need an extended warranty since I never keep any car more than 3 years. She is probably right but I may get one anyway. Will probably wait until late 2010 after at least 6 months of ownership. Retirement is looming so I may need to scale back my car buying to allow for more travel and spoiling the grandchildren.

Does anyone have any new input on the subject Certified BMW Factory extended warranties in terms of pricing or any other details ?

I'm cumming up on a year and 2500 miles so my decision window is running out. I can't decide if I would trade up at 4 years and put the money into a new car or buy a warranty allowing me to comfortably keep the car longer but possibly throwing money away if I do trade ????

Any significant accident or respray would make me want to trade in 4 years but if that doesn't happen and 4 years go by and the romance is still alive, a warranty would sure be nice to have...!

the extended service is not worth it, the extended warranty might with the turbos and other stuff that might go wrong with the N54. i had it on my E90 and it was $2500 +/- $50 (cant remember exactly), but I didn't end up keeping the car and so I just asked for a prorated refund.

don't let them rush you into it and try to haggle with them, they offered it to me when i bought the car but i never got it until the end of the four years that comes free and I still got the same price, tell them to f**k off if they try to raise the price on you just because now you have a higher mileage.

I thought the cost would go way up after the first year and given the turbos and the electronics, I don't know how comfortable I'd be going without a warranty. Then again it would be a good excuse to upgrade and get the radio and sport package next time around.... The N54 ought to be doing about 865 Hp by then...

Extended warranty and service were offered when I purchased car with no pressure. Asked if I could same offer towards end of the four years and told no problem.

I decided to buy a 7/70 extended warranty. I will likely drive less than 5K miles a year so mileage is not an issue but the extra 3 years of coverage is simply peace of mind. My local dealer ended up matching the best price I could find so I will buy from them. The platinum plan also covers all of the electronics including iDrive and Nav with a $50 deductible per visit not per item.

Bumping this to see if anyone bought an extended warranty. Not sure if US is the same as Canada: we have Eliminator, Guardian, Sentinel, Pinnacle and Ultimate plans here. I'm most concerned about covering the engine, DCT, HVAC and roof mechanism.

Extended Warranty

To give you an idea of Current UK prices for this.

Just purchased this:_
http://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/Pages/Home.aspx

Comprehensive, the highest level of protection.
  • Term:- 1-Year deal
  • Price:- £442
  • Commences:- Aug 1st 2012.

It protects my now 3-yr old, 35i (currently with 12,800 miles on the clock).
I reckon it's a damned good deal

BTW, Independents wanted over £1,000
