Thumbs up Ever wonder how the Exhaust Valve works?

Here is a nice write up I copied from the German forum and translated for you into English.

That sounds like the same "drinking in the life blood of the engine" translation facility we saw on a previous post.

Thanks Rolf-Dieter

Here it is up close and personal. Some people disconnect and block the vacuum tube (2nd photo red box) in order to have a more throaty exhaust sound all the time.

Over here we have a musical quiz show called "Spicks and SPecks"
One of their games is called "turning Japanese"

They use an online engine to take a song lyric and convert it to Japanese, then use the same engine to translate it back.
Hilarious what comes out..
A sample:

See if you can guess the song...

Much much before. ..
The method how the music that I could still remember it let me smile.
And and probably (he / it) the will find happiness that I who knew whether I had my chance as for me was able to let you dance those people for a while.

I'll post the answer tomorrow!

Is this an easy DIY job and will it harm anything by doing so?

Yes I think the link I posted came from there too, no wait I found it on the German forum and figured I'll translate it using the friendly Google Translator.

Yes, it's quite easy and won't harm anything as long as you block the end of the tube. There's a couple of ways,

1) Remove the tube with your fingers and stick a golf tee in the rubber hose opening.

2) Remove the tube with your fingers and put a small clamp on the rubber hose line.

Either way, you can undo it if it's too loud or when you return the car on lease.

Cheers

Yes, I've used the Google translator to translate an entire web page. Typically does a good job.

I'm coming up with Bye Bye Miss American Pie:

A long, long time ago...
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make those people dance
And, maybe, they’d be happy for a while.

Translating teagueAMX's posting below to Japanese and back:

Has a subtle effect:

Quote:
1) Remove the tube with your finger, stick to the opening of the golf tee rubber hose.
2) Remove the tube with your finger, put a small line of rubber hose clamp.
Now I know how those stereo system instructions come to be!

Does anyone else have a loud rattle from the RH exhaust outlet control valve when starting up their standard spec 35i from cold that lasts for about 5 seconds? The rattle only occurs as the system applies vacuum to the valve for the first time after start-up, and happens as the valve slowly moves to the fully closed position.

Is there a TSB for this rattle?

Does the s30i have a similar vacuum tube that can be blocked for more exhaust sound? Does blocking it cause an engine code? I did this on my R32 for a better sound and it has not caused any engine code issues.

It won't throw a code just make sure you block the vacuum line. But the only exhaust system I've seen is on a 35i so I can't tell if he 23i or 30i have them.

We'd need to see if it has a the vacuum solenoid shown in the first picture yellow box. From the back of the car you could look next to your tailpipe to see if it's there. The photo shown is from a 35i on it's on the passenger side. You would also see the the butterfly thingy (yes that's the technical term ).

If you happen to have the car on a lift look for the vacuum solenoid in the red box show in the second photo.

You HAVE to plug the hose, you don't want any dirt being sucked into the vaccuum system and into your engine!
Or affect vaccum pressure for other subsystems.
