What is this symbol?

The manual's confusing...is this the 'check brake fluids' symbol? Does anyone know what this CBS is reset to? Thx.

If its the little clock symbol thats showing then it means its due for a brake fluid change, its normally set for every 2 years, probably why the service ramp is showing as well?

Tim.

It's also a possible indication that your battery voltage is low, either because you ran accessories with the ignition off for too long, or you battery has issues.

I would have the dealership check it out.

That is the "take me to the shop" indicator... there are so many variations as to why the car shows that, ranging from routine maintenance to a part failure

Supposedly the dealer said it's a 'vehicle check', turns on every 2 yrs? Just seems like a general overall check...do you guys bother to bring it in or rather when there are actual CBS items?

I definitely bring it in. I believe that is a condition of the new car warranty

^Thx buddy. I went to the dealer and they said it was just the 2 yr check thingy, so I'm wondering if you guys would bother to pay ~$150 for that general check or just wait until a real CBS event occurs.

How long is your warranty in Canada? a 2011 with the warranty expired?
See if you can go to an independent garage to clear the thing. At 2 years you should change the break fluids...

It's 4 yrs/80,000kms: I expired since I'm already over 100,000kms (~62,000 miles).

Re brake fluid, someone said it's either earlier of 2 yrs or 48,000kms/30,000 miles? I'm wondering if I can wait for 2 years instead since I'm already over the distance threshold. I'll still get my servicing at the dealership, so I'll clear the symbol when I have a CBS pop up. Just wondering if anyone did the 2 year check, but then again, doubtful that anyone is in the same situation as me (2 year check symbol came out but out of warranty, so have to pay out-of-pocket).

Brake fluid is a time-based service; mileage has nothing to do with it. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, meaning that it absorbs water, which ultimately leads to poor braking performance. I actually change it up every year. I figure if BMW says every 2 years, your car really needs it twice as often

you can buy some brake fluid yourself and bring them to a reputable shop. labour should be 70 to 100 bucks.

worth it unless u can do it yourself.

Brian at APH can help you with it.

Wow, you are driving the hell out of your car! yeah the reason for changing the break fluid is to prevent oxygen accumulation in the fluid which can lead to line corrosion so it has nothing to do with mileage, it is purely time based...
Yup you now to pay for all the miles you've put on the car...
