Plasti Dip Vs Vinyl

Hey guys.

So, what are your opinions?

I am thinking whether i should plasti dip my black z to white, or vinyl wrap.

It would be a lot cheaper with plasti dip of course, and i would probably only want it for 6 months or so. Though i have heard stories where the product itself will corrupt/damage the clear coat on the paint.

Any of you have an idea?

Cheers
Wilson

Both look very good and as far as damage to the paint, I have not heard of anyone with issues. Both are a very common practice with the Nissan 370Z group and all I read was praise about the Plasti-dip product and the results were great. When it was removed, I couldn't tell there were any discolorations at all.

Did you ever pull the trigger on either option?

I heard somewhere that the plasti-dip has an adverse effect on the clear coat. I've been thinking about using it to black out the lower lip (similar to the 3DDesign front lip).

I worked for a GySgt (I believe also from Texas) on an MSSG, who I referred to as the Easter Gunny. I forget what spawned the nickname, but I do recall that he wasn't very fond of it.

vinyl seem like a way better option and personally I'd go with that. Plastidip leaves a rough rubber texture I think ruins the look, plus it's harder to clean and attracts dust and dirt. they are pretty strong but if you scrape a part off of an edge somewhere while washing the car, you are going to have a bad time.

go with vinyl every time. Your BMW is not a nissan.

If you car has a panel or more resprayed, its a good chance that the clear coat can be ripped off when you take the vinyl off again. Have a lot of experience with that

Did you just mask everything and sprayed in-place, or did you remove the bumper?

i masked it, not that big of an area to mask since the sprayer is pretty narrow

What did you do to "effectively" mask the very rounded corner where the lip meets the sides on the left and right?

Tried that, but the tape didn't make a good enough split and the plasti dip tore in a jagged way at the edges.

I just saw a video explaining that to get taped edges, they were recommending pulling the tape when its still wet. I think I can still fix it with another tape job and going heavy at those edges.
