I think this is the future. Torque filling with electric motors is a proven model: Porsche 918, LA Ferrari, P1, Rimac, Koenigsegg, etc.
Anyone who says this is not a "sports" car is just wrong. I love gasoline combustion engines; my E90 M3 makes music when you stand on the gas pedal! I'll never be able to let that sound go, it warms my heart! At the same time, I hate that I have no low end torque and with some weight reduction and supplimental electric motors, some great performance can be achieved. The Rimac has a very clever power train and solution for stability, traction and braking, as well as kers. All of these ideas can be incorporated into the ultimate sport saloon. I'm not saying the tech is perfect, but I love that they're working on it. At the end of the day, the 918's time around the ring was killed by the huracan performante and that was shattered by the GT2 RS; both of which are combustion powered. So the tech, clearly isn'T the best of the best yet. But for a few months, a hybrid hyper car held the best time around the ring... The next one will hang on a little longer and soon we'll see them dominating. To be quite honest, I believe that fossil fuels will become a thing of the past eventually. Zero emission cars or hydrogen fuel cell or something like it is the future. The sooner we can get off of fossil fuels, the better. In the meantime, I will make my M sing around the track at 8300RPM! See you guy out there... |

Full electric or hybrid cars will not save the planet or reduce the pollution. When you drive an electric your are not polluting locally, but the construction of the car generate 1,5 x more pollution and energy consumption that a regular car; then when driving your car, the electricity will be generated by coal or fuel or atomic production...and finally when recycling the electric batteries is more energy and pollution. Automakers are just following a trend

Come on man, news articles are not sources. Anyone can write a news article saying whatever they want. Find peer reviewed scientific papers on the subject from a credible scientific journal's. |

Electric cars don't burn fossil fuels? Where do you think electricity comes from?
Here's something simpler to digest: 65% of electricity in the United States is generated from CO2 emitting fossil fuels.

Hybrid AWD, manual likely ruled out. Thats all I can say...so if you on the fence about the '18 M3 you have a few months to see reviews of the new M5 powertrain performance to potentially gauge what is to come...
And yeah the whole hybrid/electric thing is to just make us lemmings feel better about ourselves...manufacturing and transporting all that crap is like spending $100 to buy $70 in 1's...batteries need to get lighter, our ability to recycle them needs to get better as well...
