We have the n55 with dual scroll in our 535iGT. There is a perceptible amount of turbo lag compared to our 2009 Z4 with the n54. I definitely prefer twin turbos.

I think the biggest LOL against the N55 is that it is less responsive to modifications. For a car kept stock I don't think it is a big issue

One key difference that we haven't touched on yet is resale. I suspect the 35is will hold its value better than the 35i on the used car market since there are fewer of them and it has the N54T engine, which is great for people who want to keep it factory stock.

1. Twin Scroll Turbocharger: BMW opted to use a single, twin-scroll turbocharger in the N55 engine rather than the twin turbos in the previous N54. They’ve coined it the TwinPower Turbo, a design that is essentially the same as a twin-turbo but in a single housing.

Funny is that he said the n54 was a single turbo...

I can tell you that the 35is is mega fast. It's right up there with the M3.
cooling system is the same between 35i and 35is

Re the M3 vs. Z4 hard to say. I have tried Cobb stg 1 DCT 35i and I would not bet money that it is faster than M3. Maybe equal at best in a straight line. It is hard for the otherwise stock Z4 to cut a good 60ft

I also wouldn't use "mega fast" unless the car is trapping the 1/4 mile over 120mph
I have tried my car with 2 m3 from 20 miles per hour and my car is faster on the short distance. After 1 mile then they catch me little by little. But that's too late for a street running.

My car is tuned but nothing else... I'm planing to do downpipes.

20mph roll I haven't tried. Like I said, the 60ft on the stock tires with the DCT is what I personally found problematic
