Opening/closing top with remote...included?
Does it come stock with the car? I have been hearing that you need the comfort access package to open/close the roof with the remote?!?! Is there even an option because when I was ordering my car, the bmw website stated that the "comfort access keyless entry" package is only for "unlocking the doors by touching doors and turning on the engine without first inserting the remote key." It didn't say anything about opening/closing the convertible top...My car just finished production and I didn't get this package!
Please tell me its not true! |

If you do not have the CA, you can still open the top with the remote control. (by holding down the open button), however and unfortunately, you will not be able to close the top remotely....

If you have CA in US you CAN open and close via remote, but you gotta be really damn close to do it.
Just get SmartTop

For US, the only way I know of to open/close the roof for people with the regular remote is by pulling the key out of the remote and putting it in the lock and turning, or in the car, by holding down the buttons in front of the shifter. |

Because see here in the US there are people that sue companies for their own stupidity. Taking these options away is a way for companies to protect themselves from litigation. Sad but true.

Alright, so plz explain to me the difference between having the CA option (which enables you to open the roof remotely) and between not having the CA option, but still being able to open the roof remotely...
Emm... As such, what you are saying, once you opt for the CA option, you are not alleged to sue BMW for having a stupid accident from the fact of opening the roof remotely?? I don't get it... |

In the US, if you get CA you open and close the top via remote, if you dont get CA you cant do anything via remote. How can you get into an accident while opening the roof remotely???? You dont do that while driving you do that while parked and not in the car.

This is what I am saying Stoof. My car, does not have the CA option, but can open the roof remotely (cannot close it remotely though). If you scroll above, marcw & Skier are saying, the reason you cannot open the roof remotely when you do not have the CA is suits/lawyer... And I am asking to explain, since that does not make sense to me at all...

On US models, they don't let you operate the roof unless you are next to the vehicle, presumably to avoid unsafe conditions where the roof is operated sight unseen by the operator. On cars with CA, the proximity of the key fob guarantees the operator is nearby. On cars without CA, you have to stick the key in the door and hold it, which also guarantees the operator is nearby. It seems obvious to me that they are preventing remote ("remote" as in "away from the location of the car") operation of the top.
I think there are similar building code rules for garage door openers, where the button has to be installed within sight of the door. |
