Metal shuttered slot in passenger area?

So, I just took delivery of my Z4 and have been working through the myriad of computer settings, adjustments, and button functions, but can't for the life of me figure out what the slot with the metal flap next to the stickshift in the passenger foot area is for. It's basically located right where a passenger's knee woudl rest in a relaxed position. Can't find it in the manual, and my salesman is clueless.. It basically looks like a bay you'd plug a portable hard disk into or something. Any ideas?

It is the slot for a cup holder. It should be located in a holder up in the glove box.

Haha thanks, I feel kinda silly now. No cup in the glove compartment though, so dealer is looking into it.

I'm pretty certain they're standard for us spec cars. Although ppl have reported them missing...

It might be hard to notice, even in the glove box. Theres no round ring type thing in the top right of the glove box?

It's a cup holder, not a cup that should be in the glove compartment.

Don't tell me they sold you a car without the cup holder .... pity you should get after your salesman to get you one or does he expect you to drive with one hand ?

Just kidding, I think you need to order one ... it is removable you know just pull it out and store it in the clove compartment if you have a passenger

Im with you Rolf...and BTW what CA wouldn't know that that is for a cup holder??? Did he know it was a Z4 or did he have to look at the rear badge to learn that? WOW...those are the CA's that give the rest of us a bad name
