I searched everywhere and couldn't find one so I hooked up a double in the console (when needed). I also use a single in there, run the cable out the back behind the seat and under the door mouldings so no wiring is visible until it gets to the Nav unit next to the A pillar

I also tried to retrofit smokers package at the dealer but BMW says there is no elecrical wire drawn to connect the lighter so they can not do this. So why are they selling the package? Didn't get an answer. Must be a lot of elecrical wires in the area. I really need another 12v outlet. |

Now I need to see a pic of an actual 12v outlet in the footwell before I will believe it .... I mean really, this is a North American unit and we are the most gadget crazy in the known universe.

Found it! Thanks Memphis1/EandS, boy, that's a PITA to find.
Hint for others: The plug goes pretty much straight up vertical. Last edited by dwagner00; 05-31-2010 at 05:46 PM.. |

Just inserted another picture above to further help people understand the location of the outlet. I dropped the panel in which it's inserted to tie in a power line to the back of the outlet and ran it behind the dash to the other side to connect to a Passport 9500ix. That's described in this post:

If my memory serves me correctly I think I stuck my finger in a hole like the one in the picture but thought it was a mounting bolt recess or something equally stupid. Must have had the ignition off at the time. Now I'm going home to have another look.... with my glasses "on" this time.

Hidden power oulet
There is a hidden power outlet on the passenger side, located under the glove box area on the left side all the way back under the dash.. Use your hand to find it.

Now I have to look for that power outlet too... I didn't know there was one there. In any event, to add to the list, I was pleasantly surprised to see there are orange leds illuminating the shelf at night. Adds a nice touch of ambiance!

It was just in the trunk for me when I picked up the car. It was a backing plate (like the skibag is connected to), and then 3 shelves that clicked into it (shelves are about 3" x 6" I think).

I found the shelf system in my trunk, too. I changed it over as soon as I took delivery. You can't fit much on the shelves, but it is still more useful than the ski bag.

I think the shelf is standard and the skibag/pass-thru is an option available at a small cost. I use both regularly.
