Probably sell in California and....no where else. Just walked 8 miles today watching. I line in an upscale neighborhood. I see more exotic super cars than ev cars. Not one today walking for 2 hours watching. Zero.

Of course it will sell everywhere, with the car being particularly popular in California (like all EVs) due in large part to tax-credits, incentives and the tech/green culture. Will be particularly suitable to the LA area's horrible traffic due to "autopilot".

However, the target market for the Model 3 is large, and lacking negative reviews or competition it will significantly eat into BMW, MB, and Audi's entry-level 3-series, A4, and C-class car sales. All the reviews have been positive, yet there are currently no non-tech focused or non-EV car reviewers. The Model 3-gushing Motor Trend reviewer, Kim Reynolds seems to have been focused solely on EV and hybrid reviews lately as you can see here: http://www.motortrend.com/staff/kim-reynolds/. Other magazines may provide a more informative and balanced review.

people still drive their cars ya know so it needs to be engaging
the day I stop driving is the day I start taking buses

I read somewhere that Tesla will bill you more on the Model 3 if you pick any other color than what is standard.

Ummmm, BMW offers ONE standard color, and charges 1000 for any other color? I'm not talking about metallics, or individual colors.

Anyways, that what I read. Not sure if it's true.

I know Metallics and any individual colors require an upcharge...I think most manufacturers do this. I was under the impression that there were at least 2-3 other color options available on BMW's that didn't require an additional fee. Maybe it's only applicable to the lower trims where a standard gloss paint other than a white or black is available.

I think it varies car to car. If I recall my f30 had a white and black free option. The f22 only had white. Tesla looks to be doing the same. Black is flat and the rest are metallic in nature.

Solid Black: Standard
Midnight Silver Metallic: $1,000
Deep Blue Metallic: $1,000
Silver Metallic: $1,000
Pearl White Multi-Coat: $1,000
Red Multi-Coat: $1,000

RIP BMW. "The Model 3 is still $35,000 in order to get roughly the same options as a BMW 330i with $43,950 MSRP." Thats before the $7500 federal tax credit.

Good luck getting a "Standard Battery" ($35,000) model anytime soon.

The same website quoted Elon Musk as saying they are prioritizing on producing the Long Range first, which starts at $44,000.

That's 100% bull and typical of that electric propaganda site.

The Model 3, at its base price, is available in one freakin color and has that '92 Lumina inspired interior with Fisher Price plastics to match.

The 330i starts at $38K.

Range-Topping Tesla Model 3 Costs $59,500

Quote:
Despite many doubters, Elon Musk has fulfilled his promise of offering the Tesla Model 3 from $35,000 before tax incentives. However, if customers want more than just and an entry-level Model 3, they better be prepared to pay a significant premium.

Customers of the standard Model 3 with 220 miles of range and a 5.6 second 0-60 mph (96 km/h) time will have to cough up an extra $7,500 to select the Premium Upgrade Package, custom paint and more stylish wheels, for example.

The Premium Upgrade Package includes heated seats, two rear USBs, 12-way power adjustable front seats, a premium audio system, tinted glass roof with ultraviolet and infrared protection, auto dimming and heated side mirrors, LED fog lights and an improved center console.

Want to enjoy hands-free driving? Enhanced Autopilot adds $5,000, bringing the price up to $47,500 and when a few other miscellaneous options are selected, the max price for a Model S standard hits $50,500.

Those looking for greater range can adopt the Model 3 long Range for an additional $9,000, meaning its maximum price sits at $59,500 before incentives.

While prices top out at just below the $60,000 mark at the moment, they won’t stay that way. In fact, we know that an all-wheel drive version will be offered at a later date and in mid-2018, a performance version is set to join the range, possibly edging pricing towards $70,000.

Interesting, is there a metal roof available? They just killed it on the Model S and the panoramic roof is standard. They claimed it was cheaper to streamline manufacturing this way. Funny that they'd reverse that for the Model 3.

Living in TX, I would greatly prefer a metal roof.

Just heat. The Model S I've been in with the glass roof doesn't seem to block as much heat as a car with a solid roof.

Maybe it's just bad memories from my M Coupe's useless sunroof.

Less wind resistance after the hail storm, like a golf ball.

The huge-packages-only approach to options would cause a revolt if BMW followed suit. Same thing for the truly-horrendous Model 3 steering wheel.

Can't wait to see the shootout/back-to-back comparisons with other $45-60k sedans.
