glad you made it Ok, keep us posted as to progress with BMW and possible recalls etc. Oh, and I now have 5 yrs of tire and rim insurance so if not covered under warranty, it's covered under the other warranty....

Cheers,

I had a deal with my first girlfriend (who could never get a joke) that I would hold up a sign whenever I sw she was not gettting a joke. HArd to find a sign when you are out and about so in the end I just mimed it, so she would see that she should not take what was said by someone too seriously. True story.

Nothing worse than a girlfriend that does not get your humor.
Any one of the following usually works for exemplifying humor...

The netting behind the seats that runs accross the width of the car moves up and down and can be locked into place in the up position if you pull all the way up on it. There, I wanted to throw that in there, so as to meet the requirements of staying on topic.

Speaking of netting, does everyone know that there is a net mapholder (or similar item) on the back of the seats. I can't see how many people could actually access it if the seat is occupied by other than a midget (no offence meant if there's a midget on here) I got a CD case in it yesterday (don't do this while driving )

I have to agree hahaha ...... about the midget

Now for my extended road trip I prepared a 1" Three Ring Binder with maps and reminder and such fine things ... I stored it under the driver seat for easy access. It fitted there quite nicely

BTW ... I purchased a set of carpeted mats with the inscription Z4 in it. I found them at the friendly Hollywood BMW dealer. The mats came with 4 rubber plugs that screwed into the floor (existing holes on both the driver and passenger side) the round plugs lined up with the Velcro on the underside of the carpeted mats. The price was $94- US compared to $175- Canadian my local dealer wanted for plain mats. So it was a good deal.

The tell me what I don't know part is I guess A) Mats are available in the US at a better price and B) you need no tools to install them you should find 2 slots on each side to screw in the plugs as seen in Photo 27 and 28.

Two Photos added in my Garage to show you the Mats and the Plug

Now let's get this going ..... What's Next?

Back when I still had my E85 I was watching a Discovery documentary about the Z4 assembly process at the Spartanburg facility. When they were putting in the seats I saw a glimpse of the net behind the seat. The next time I went to my car I was mildly embarassed to find out that there indeed was a net there...

On the auto transmission, the gas pedal has a button you can press when at full throttle which downshifts the car to the 3rd gear.

I discovered that a few days ago. I had a loaner 328 E90 today so I tried the button under the gas pedal on the highway. It puts the transmission in overdrive 3rd gear.
Just look under the gas pedal. You will see what I mean.

Sounds like the same button that is used to activate the overboost function on the 35is.

I do not believe this is a feature on the DCT transmission. It is probably just on the auto transmission with the 30i.

interesting. So I guess it is a feature of the 6 speed auto. I redlined the car when I pushed it at 70mph on 6th gear manual mode. It's kind of a dumb feature. I'm glad I did not test it on my Z.

One might call it an Overspeed Button (like ... last defense to bring you back to the real world ... like telling you slow down police is lurking at the next corner)

Another one to remember:

when it has just rained, don't start driving with your window down ... you will get all wet from the water that poors from the roof

yes I know, own experience ...

Yes, at a stop you get a free shampoo, at speed the fluid comes out the left window and hits you in the face.

I always close the driver window before washing the windshield (which I do daily as I'm a sucker for a clean windshield)

I got the manual transmission in my car. Today I put her in first gear let the clutch out and she started moving w/o me pushing the gas pedal. I drove around the block going 3 maybe 4 mph. Kind of nifty. Almost like an automatic. All my other manual transmission cars usually stall if you don't push the gas pedal.

OK, here are some things I found quite cool.
1. When you have the foldable upgraded (Here in aus) side mirrors, the left side mirror (probably right in the US) tilts down when you put the car in reverse so you can see the kerb.

2. When you're on a hill and stopped, and you just take the brake off, the car will do its own hill stop kind of thing (I have the manual) so your car doesn't roll backwards before you get the chance to move off...if you leave the brake off for a few seconds, it seems to release and then you start going backwards.

3. You can only use the glovebox USB drive to import music - and make sure you do it all at once, or else everytime you import music over it makes a new USB1 or 2 or 3 folder...unless that's what you want.

4. The seatbelt warning gong never stops.

5. With comfort access and the upgraded side mirrors, each key you have will move the mirrors to the last setting for you automatically so that 2 drivers can have 2 configurations which are completely different. Furthermore to this, it changes all your saved radio stations etc.

6. If you setup your saved radiostations together, you can cycle between AM and FM in the same list, instead of having to move between all the FM stations, then all the AM stations.

7. The numbered touch sensitive hot keys near the CD drive can be set with a "home" button that automatically puts the nav on and navigates you home without any other press of the button. I have this as my number 2 buttons, and my number 1 button stops and starts the navigation if I want it to shut up.

8. There is a button at the front of the sports seats in the corner that makes the lumbar support squish in nice and tight (Everyone probably knows this one, but I just found out!)

9. With comfort access you can put your roof up and down from outside the car but it drains the battery if you do it more than a couple of times (Watch out!)

10. If you get home, and then flick on your headlights using the left stalk (In australia) which you normally use for high beams (But just the temporary high beams, not the sustained setting) then you get a home light which illuminates the walkway in front of the car for a set amount of time (you set it via the idrive in settings - I'm sure you've all found it).

Anyway, they are some things I found. You all probably know half of em, but I recall all the moments I discovered them, and felt happy...
