Did you ever get a chance to get an actual lumen measurement for these bulbs?

Did this tonight. These things are exactly what I was looking for. The color matches the headlights now, they're bright but not blinding, and they are inexpensive enough that I can still eat this week.

My thoughts on the install: not too tough, but if you or a friend have carny size hands it'll help. Mark what will be the top of the heat sink so you can tell you've got it turned all the way in. It took some real force to get the led to turn, I think because it doesn't have the connector build in so you have poor leverage. Once it got past a certain point though it was easy. I just thought I was going to break something (either the led or my finger) up until then. Finally, wear some mechanics gloves, those led heat sink fins can be sharp.

After the stubby antennae, this is the best bang for your buck upgrade, IMO.

Which link did you buy the LEDs from? The Amazon link sold by HK5 or the eBay "generic" Cree?

The amazon hk5 link. My wife's first question was:"why doesn't BMW just put these in at the factory?" Good question.

Hey guys I noticed some threads say to put the LED controller (the cylinder) into the housing as in the OP's post (to retain waterproofing of housing) and some put it outside the housing (due to heat concerns).

I'm interested in putting the controller inside the housing and wonder if anyone has had issues with heat.

Thanks!

I put it all in the housing and haven't noticed any problems so far. I electrical taped the two cylinder pieces together and put them in. Seems to be plenty of space in there.

I noticed today in a shop window that the lights flickered twice when coming on. Some have asked about this in the past. My opinion is WGAS.

I installed the 2 drivers taped together inside the lamp housing. No heat issues to date
Heat is a direct relationship to wattage and these are only 20 watt LEDs compared to the higher wattage halogen units.

I also have the controller inside the housing. One day I checked after driving and the controller was not hot.

Took me like 10 minutes 9 of which took trying to put my habd in the tiny hole

I love the new look and am happy with the product

Just curious about the heat that cones from the
Chrome plated "thing" if it gets too hot and will have any defects
Its warm/hot. But not omg hot but just curious if others have the same thing

Where did you get these? It looks like they aren't available on that Amazon link anymore.

Also, Z4Rider, did you ever get a chance to get a lumen output on these things?

This is the company's site (I think). These look the same and have 2011 z4 listed, but they are higher wattage and a little more expensive. You could probably fire an email off to them and get the scoop. Good luck.

If I'm not mistaken, those do not fit into the housing of our cars. If I recall correctly, someone on here actually bought those and had to return them for the very reason.

You might be right. Is this the thread you were referencing:
H8 LED Angel Eyes http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=869255
I'm not sure if these are the same or not, but might be. Just gotta ask I guess.

Avoid 32 watt units. They will not fit Z4. Extensive mod. of heat sink necessary. Autolizer units produce EMI /RFI. Radio useless with DRL on.

Couldn't find the original link, but apparently these are "2nd generation" to the ones on this thread.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2nd-GEN-H8-B...c8abb2&vxp=mtr

Not sure if I should put $80 to try these out that may or may not have more output, or go with the "1st generation" for around $60. I wouldn't mind putting down the extra $20, but the 2nd generations are advertised as 7000k Temperature... and that might be a bit too blue for me.

Hey guys, just wanted to let everyone know to avoid iJDMtoy.com for angel eyes. I learned the hard way that t is a clear case of "you get what you pay for"

I tried out a $40 set from iJDMToy.com that did not fit the E89 even though it was advertised as H8 for Z4 and it looks like customer service is going to leave me hanging because of the "final sale" caveat.

http://store.ijdmtoy.com/BMW-1-3-5-7...s-p/fsc-06.htm

I also tried out another of their designs that I purchased used and did not have much luck. They are a huge pain to install and uninstall because of the spring loaded arms design, and they were damaged during shipping even though they were in their original packaging

http://store.ijdmtoy.com/BMW-1-3-5-7...mw_halo_s7.htm

I am going to try a pair of blue tinted halogen H8 made by PIAA and will post some pics when I get them. I might end up just throwing down for LUX or keeping it stock.

EDIT: UPDATE.. blue tinted halogens were a fail (silly me for expecting otherwise...) and look identical to stock.

iJDM is just a ripoff that re-packages cheap Chinese eBay quality items nicely and sells them for at a premium price... and I am not basing this on just the name.

Nick - Any reason you aren't trying the specific ones from this thread?
For me, I would never get the current LUX (V4) because for $250... they flicker. Maybe when they come out with the V5 that dims like OEM, I will actually jump ship.

In regards to the $40.. if they won't budge, maybe threaten to/actually do a credit rollback? When I threatened to do a rollback with a similar company, they quickly accepted my return.

Get your credit card company to back you up on this. You received a product that couldn't be in the situation for which it was intended. I don't think price is really the issue. I paid $30 for GP Thunder LED angel eye bulbs (Cree) and they work great. I think if you stick with Cree you'll be OK.

While this is true for authentic Cree, with so many sellers nowadays selling these lights, it's really hard to find authentic Cree instead of just any seller claiming they're the "brightest most up to date 5,000W Cree LEDs."

Just saying.
