Question Question about brake pad design

So I've had this 2013 35i for a week now and put about a thousand miles on it when the dash brake light lights up and stays lit. Made an apt with the dealer to have it checked next week, but in the mean time I snuck a peek at the brake pads (outers anyway), which is easy to do through the very open 325M wheels. They appear to be brand new, but all of them seem to have a bevel cut I have never seen on a pad before. Thicker towards the hub than on the outer edge. Is this something unique to BMW? Anyone who has been into their braks please comment.

OOPS; Never mind! Took a wheel off to do a minor cosmetic repair and realized that the sides of the pads are relieved, which is pretty common practice.
