If cousins and Brock can get paid 18mill, brees should definitely be getting paid in the 20mill range.

The issue is the bad contracts they've given to mediocre guys. Theyve got 41.5mill in dead money this year and cant cover anyone Byrd is getting 11mill

Idk why they gave him that new fat contract. He is old and clearly declining, horrible decision really. I doubt any other team would've paid him what he wanted so he would've stuck around anyway. The 'Aints have been mediocre for like 4 seasons now, and are 0-3 as we speak.

Again, Brock, who started 7 games and was mediocre at best in those, got 18m. Its the current QB market that has starting QBs at 18-25mill.

And Brees is the only reason they are in some of these games. without brees, they are a 1-15/2-14 team at best.

Look at what the Broncos are doing with a scrub QB. Look at what the Seahawks did when RW3 was in his rookie deal. The key in the NFL is, apparently, to get a cheap QB and studs everywhere else. Brady makes like $8M a year. That's one big reason the Pats are so good - they have a defacto $10M extra to spend each year.

And you're right, with their current roster and a scrub QB they'd be 2-14, but with a scrub QB and $15M extra in new/upgraded players I'd wager they'd be a lot better than they are.

All of this! I also do NOT agree with my own teams deal with Romo. But JJ is really good at shuffling and restructuring contracts. Overpaid veteran QBs in this day and age is not smart. More than any other sport, Football requires good if not great talent spread around on the entire team to win.

Not with their track record on FAs. Like i said, they have over 41mill in dead money due to bad FA deals as well as another 11mill that Byrd is making on another bad FA deal. If they were better with their cap, thats 52mill they could spend on upgrades elsewhere.

Brady also converted his base salary to signing bonus so the cap hit could be spread out across the deal. It actually benefitted him because his base "salary" is so low now so the suspension took little money out of his pocket. He still got $28mill in signing bonus this year...

The Broncos got lucky with Siemian and the Hawks with RW. They are outliers, not the norm. And the Broncos were paying Manning 20+ mill last year when they won the SB.

Rodgers is making 22million, but the Packers are always in contention. RW is making 22mill now and they are still a favorite, Cam ~21... The list goes on and on.

The good teams arent going out and spending tons of money on FAs. They are building through the draft. I cant think of one team that a FA made a huge impact the last few years outside of manning to the broncos. Hell, the Giants spent $100mill in FA on Defense and they just gave up 29 to the redskins.

If romo had stayed healthy, his contract at around 18mill/year would have been a bargain. Dont forget he was very close to beating out the $24m/yr qb aaron rodgers for mvp his last healthy season.

At 18mill/yr, he is in the bottom half of qb pay. Definitely a bargain for the production.

People making more? Osweiler, Kaep, Cousins, Tannehill, Cutler...

Dez Bryant has hairline fracture in knee. No surgery required.
JJ Watt out possibly rest of season. Back surgery coming.

You can also put some blame on Drew here because he makes so much, they aren't able to sign free agents to help that awful defense. Then again they draft so many offensive players in the draft, how can you get better in other positions lol.

The salary cap went up 12 million from 2015->2016 and will go up again in 2017. Brees making 22M is hardly the issue and is pretty standard for a QB of his caliber. The issue with the lack of talent is due to the Saints management, scouting department, coaching, etc.

Only the top 51 players salaries count against the cap. Coach's salaries do not count.

Agreed with your points on the Saints organization. However, as a QB in my late 30's, wouldn't you want to win and take a little less money like Brady has been doing and another QB I know who has done it was Stafford(but he's not winning).

brady is making 28 mill this season. He just converts salary to bonus and extends his contract. It creates cap issues down the road, but he keeps doing it and will do it till he retires, so there wont be the cap hell to pay. The saints could have done the same to brees, but decided not to. Romo has been doing this for years as well.

Brees could be playing for 1mill and the saints organization would still screw it up. Case in point is the 41+ mill in dead money from bad deals on guys that didnt perform and got cut. You dont build championship teams through FA, you build through the draft. Very rarely do you see a team add high dollar FAs and succeed.

In reality if you wanted to hang Brady for cheating this would be your mark. He's under paid by 12 mill a year and that money goes to someone else. It's cheating in the sense that his using his financial success to develop a better team. Well within the rules but it is an advantage non the less

LOVE what im seeing from our first round pick Ifedi!! definitely makes Seattle O line substantially better, and opens up the running lanes/providing RW with decent protection for once!

14-3 Hawks at this point
