I looked but came up empty. My superstore (Binnie's) usually has a great selection of high end stuff, and they had Buffalo Trace, but no Single Oak. So I picked up these instead.

The trifecta Friday night! Started at the neighbors house with Franconia Oktoberfest, little a glass of Cosco Chardonnay, and went home and finished off my Jamison black label while watching daredevil

So much goodness in this thread. I've developed two new infatuations. Thanks to TXSTYLE, I'm hooked on Plantation Rum, which I'm enjoying tonight. And thanks to John Tanglewood (Porn Star), there's a new love in my life; that being bourbon. And of course, there's the sage advice from many folks here that has honed my taste for Scotch. The only sadness is that I went more than 50 years of my life not enjoying these three delights through sheer ignorance on my part.

I'm a big fan of Port wine - we brought back a number of really nice bottles from a trip to Portugal a few years back that are aging in the wine rack right now. I'd definitely recommend a visit there if you've never been! The food and wine are awesome - and there are a lot of wine bars where you can try several different types of Port to learn the differences.

Vintage Ports typically need to age for 20+ years to be considered at their prime, so you would start drinking the late 80s and earlier 90s vintages around now; however, they can run several hundred per bottle now. If you are patient (extremely patient, haha), you can pick up the '07 and '09 vintages now for a decent price. My wine rack has a '92, '94 and '97 Sandeman trio waiting, and then we have an '03 and '07 Taylor Fladgate that we purchased in Portugal. I'll probably open one of the Sandeman's this year to enjoy.

If you're looking for a nice Port to drink now without the wait or ridiculous price tags, I think the 20 and 30-yr Tawny Ports are pretty spot on for the money. The 20yr doesn't break the bank so much, yet still has the complexities that are so nice in a port. I don't notice a huge difference jumping to the 30 and 40yr Tawny Ports to justify the price hike, so the 20yr Tawny's are my favorite to drink.

Now I'm thirsty....

I'm not a big fan of peat flavors that much either, but I've had a few of the Dalwhinnie and Macallan variants from the chart.

Another very nice, low peat, scotch is Singleton of Dufftown. They have a very smooth, rich and slightly sweet flavor to them. Their Artisan malt is probably my favorite Scotch to drink neat. I've been working through a bottle of 15-yr now, but I usually prefer that with a small ice cube in it.

Yep. I've had Tawny and that is what peaked my interest. It would not be a regular per say, but something occasionally to switch things up.

^^^What's the story with that glass? Looks like it was partially filled with water and then set inside a freezer half tilted over?

Interesting - technically it's still neat just chilled. Might have to try but don't really like it chilled.
