Navigation Driving Directions

Hey guys,

When I ask for driving directions from my iDrive, say from Orlando to Miami, the female voice instructions tells me "bear left" before EVERY highway exit.

It's really annoying. In areas where there are lots of exits, it constantly interrupts the radio. Why can't it tell me when to EXIT the highway instead?

Mine does it for every exit! It's super annoying. Is there no way to regulate this setting?

Actually, I typically have the voice off and just use the screen. Occasionally, especially in cities, I will turn on the voice prompts.

This. Plus, unlike the old E85's, this one remembers that you don't want the voice on so you don't have to keep turning it off every time you start the car.

I do not have this problem! When I go on longer road trips mine is pretty good at saying something like "keep straight for the next 20kms", and it will stay quiet even if I have to go straight for more than that. I however still turn the voice off pretty often as my map is more than 1 year old and therefore completely outdated in this insane country.

I don't know if I am making things up or if it is only a feature in the Chinese language version, but I am 99% sure mine has an option where you can select regular or short navigation instructions. However I just browsed through the the UK Z4 2010 manual and did not find anything mentioned about this option.

I am pretty sure I set mine to "short", but I will have to take a picture next time. And it might only actually affect the Chinese voice commands...

It may well be an operator problem, but I absolutely despise the navigation system in my 2010 Z4 s35i. My biggest complaint is being unable to set up customized routes to a destination. In other words if I don't want to exactly use one of the system's routes there doesn't seem to be any reasonable way to modify them without creating individual destinations along the way to the final endpoint. In contrast all the Cadillacs we've had for years, even going back to our first XLR, a 2005 model, easily accommodated such route specifications.

On a recent trip I found the Z's navigation so damned aggravating it made me resolve to take a look at the Jaguar F Type S or something similar.

I do the same -- voice is only on if the local street layout is very dense/confusing OR if the next instruction isn't for a long time (to prompt me so I don't miss it!). Otherwise, I leave the voice off and use the screen -- the interruption is too annoying.

Relatedly, I leave my split screen map on "Arrow" view and made the "6" key show/hide it. So when I'm driving with the voice off and want to check what's coming up, I hit 6, look at the instruction, and hit 6 again to hide it.

Here is the picture I promised a long time ago. In my car there are three options for navigation driving directions.

Gong only
Simple
Normal

To select one of these you go into menu-navigation-navigation settings-guidance-spoken instructions
