Replaced cup holder/phone connector console insert

I replaced the center console compartment insert today with an EU part. The cup holders in the center console are worthless and I will never use the snap in phone adapter. It took about an hour to install. I tucked the phone connector and small motherboard in the console area tunnel with the other existing wires. I left the adapter plugged into the wiring harness.

Install was way easy since my neighbor's visiting son is a BMW tech and he yanked out the console in the time it took me to get two beers.

$51 for the new insert and insert liner from Schmiedmann.

Here are the part numbers:
1 -- ODDMENTS TRAY -- 51169181218
1 -- FLOOR MAT VELOURS -- 51169174845

Did exactly the same (incl. ripping off the phone console and tucking the wires underneath) last year. The only difference came from the fact I got the oddment tray from an authorised BMW dealer.

Local BMW dealer could not attain the two parts needed (non-US car part numbers), so I ordered the parts from EU.

I want to remove the snap in adapter as well, do I have to unbolt the whole armrest, or does snap in adapter pry out somehow? I don't want to break anything, but I don't know where the best pry points are if you just muscle it out.
Any diagrams or pointers would be great.

I'm trying to figure this out also.

The snap in adapter pops out. A connector and a 1"x3" circuit board are integrated into the adapter. Once I had the adapter out, I cut the adapter plastic in order to release the phone connector/circuit board.

You can hide the connector under the console (near the console latch area) by either removing the console or cutting a small opening in the console area that is hidden once the new tray is in place. A friend just did the cut option (cut out a small area near the front tray mounting screw holes in the console and then squeezed in the connector/adapter under the console). Once the new tray is in, you cannot see any cuts.

Check out this post for details on removing the console: http://e89.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1058216
