HPFP or Injectors?

I'm pushing the tune on my Z4 with Dimitri. I received the following feedback from him on my last run.

"I'm going to have to reduce torque and some boost. The map is just too aggressive for the fuel or due to hardware fault

The shudder that felt like a misfire was your HPFP hitting the HPFP threshold limit. The DME pulls power when this happens.

Something is definitely up with you fueling system. Previous logs your HPFP was looking better and now its low again. So my conclusion is you are in fact loosing fuel pressure either from an Injector(s) or the HPFP is going EOL"

I'm pretty sure I have Index 9 injectors. Any suggestions on actions I can take to be more certain if the issue is the HPFP or injectors or which I should replace first?

BTW, I have been very happy with his results. He is very responsive and informative,

Have you checked to see if your vin qualifies for injector warranty replacement?

My 2011 did. I have a whole new set paid for by BMW.

Are you experiencing long cranks or uneven idle on start up? If so points to leaky injectors.
After a year and a half and having HPFP and LPFP replaced (line not holding pressure after shut down) covered under warranty. Problem was finally trace to 2 leaky index 11 injectors. Dealer will only replace bad injectors if you have high index units (under warranty replacement plan). Car had always ran great no hiccups under WOT.

Injector leakage

Thank you for the response. We did try to get BMW to replace the injectors but we missed the recall by 1 month. But once I replace them I will try to submit for reimbursement.

It has always had a long crank time and started roughly until it smoothed out. I've been searching for a reason and this is the first time I've heard it could be the injectors. Based on your feedback, Dimitri's findings and the fact I have Index 9 injectors I think a new set makes sense.

Thanks again.

I spent $160 and got brand new injectors. Frankly not expensive, and stupid easy to install. I also swapped in plugs (per BQ Tuning) while I was doing it. Less than $200 with the plugs.

Injectors are Eldor/Hudson (box) - 12138657273 (eBay $28 each shipped)
NGK 95770 ILZKBR7B8DG http://www.ngk.com/product.aspx?zpid=39947 (2 4-packs are like $26 shipped)

You are talking about coils Filippo not injectors. The 6 injectors can coast 700$ new on ebay. More than 1200 at the dealer

This module is listed for many models for reimbursement.

It does a lot of things including lights. What happens is it bricks itself when it is being programmed either by the dealer or an owner using software like NCSExpert or iCarly.

This winter I think I will get one and see what it takes to replace it. Probably will need to be programmed !

I don't think a Svc center will replace it if isn't broke but an owner can get one and be reimburse, even for labor.

Replaced Injectors

Car starts much smoother now. I think I have to replace the HPFP since it's showing issues when I really push the car.
