Yellow warning light. Car won't stay in D or R
Hi There, I just went out to drive into town. I got a yellow dash warning light. It is a side view of the car with a dashed 2 way arrow over the top. <------>
I put the car in Drive or Reverse and it goes a few inches and goes back into park. It was fine this morning. It has been very cold. I can't find the meaning of the symbol in any place that I've looked. Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks. |

That is the symbol for (Transmission not in park). This happens because the car thinks a door is open. Normally the driver's door.
It sounds like one of the door sensors is not working, the door is not closing all the way, or the sensor is frozen. These sensors are on the door locking mechanism. |

Thank you
The door was not closing properly because of ice. It must have melted when I was trying to figure why I couldn't keep it in drive. I went back an hour and a half later and everything was fine. Thank you for the information.

Thank you! This helps me out as well. My car has intermittently been doing a similar thing. Slamming into park when driving under 20mph. I live in CA where there is no ice, but I bet the door sensor is not working correctly.
