Almost the story of my friend, except he had a convertible instead of a T-Top, and it was a late-90s version.

Dammit man, now you got me thinking of him; the last time we talked in 2004 or so, he was fighting lupus, then he moved to San Diego with his mom. Pretty cool guy; my first burnout and donut was in his Camaro

1966 Rambler American wagon & 1969 Chevy Truck

I learned to drive in my Grandmothers 1966 Rambler American Wagon it was a 3 speed manual on the column (3 on the tree). I only drove that a couple times then learned in my stepfathers (R.I.P.) 1969 Chevy Fleetside truck. It had a 307ci (rebuilt) V8, 2WD, 4 Speed Manual with Hurst shifter, a bench seat. I was 7 to 8 years old (around 1983), he put blocks on the pedals with hose clamps so I could reach in the truck. By the time I was 9 there was not anything I could not drive. Images below are pretty much identical to the classics I was privileged to learn to drive in.

This should make you feel better. Early 70's Buick wagon and Wildcat. Wildcat had a 430 cubic inch engine and it was so tail happy my mom would burn 'em off when she tried to go quick. Learned manual on a '62 bug. What a great snow car that was.

I learned to drive, as in steer competently, on a go-kart. I learned to manipulate a manual transmission with a clutch in a 1979 Fiat 131 2 door.

If you paint this car black, with a paint brush and then paint "Death Wagon" on the sides in red paint, with a brush and THEN, cut the top off of the car with a gas powered circular saw; it would look just like the one i learned in. lol

My buddy had an old Ford his dad rebuilt. 3-speed, thing hauled ASS, and had a rocking stereo. He'd give me the keys at lunch, and I 'd drive it over 7th period to his class area, then turn up the Van Halen.

Oh, and my parents' 75 Volvo 245 DL station wagon, pickle green pitted paint.

Yes it was. Looking back I am really thankful I never got in an accident or hurt anyone behind the wheel, especially since most of us have no restraint at that age. On the brightside it was a very good car to learn stick on and made me such a better driver. I have only had rwd manual cars ever since

My dad told me that I couldn't get my license unless I learned how to drive a manual transmission...he said once you learn to drive a stick, you can almost drive anything. With that being said, I learned on an old ass VW Beetle.
