Anyone else take a major beating this quarter?

I know the markets have been tough, but dayem! My supplemental retirement funds got moved from a recently closed fund to one that would "better diversify" my investment. The former fund was safe and rarely lost a lot, although gains were slow (but at least there were gains). This new fund not only lost every penny I put in last quarter, but that amount again. 200% loss of new investment funds for the quarter. I swear I could do better than these "professionals" just by random choice.

My 401k has been relatively flat. The only options available for investing through the company plan have all been flat or down though.

My stock portfolio (self directed) has fared much better. Taken advantage of the fears and swings to maximize a couple bounce opportunities.

I'd take flat over cratering any day. The plan we're in has a decent Morning Star rating, but I don't know enough about investing to know if that means anything. I wish my investing knowledge was equal to my IT knowledge.

Our company also has a pension plan, which is a huge plus.

I have always hated being limited on investment options through company match plans.

Been a terrible year for my old 401k. I think it's down ~10% for the year. No contributions to this one this year as it was through my previous employer. I haven't looked at the current one in a while, guess I'm afraid to.

I also have the state of IL University pension plan, which is generous, but in deep, deep financial trouble. I'll be shocked if I get the same benefits when I retire that current retirees are getting.

I've gotten raped the last couple months. Money under my mattress and go buy a c6 z06 would have been cheaper.

It's been a lovely quarter. Can't complain. Can't say that for the entire year...

I sold AAPL on Friday - this is the first time since 2002 that I have not held ANY AAPL.

It will be interesting to see how the 4th qtr finishes for retail...

I was down a bit last quarter, but have rebounded in October though. Overall it's been a relatively flat year for me (up about 4.5% YTD), compared to gains of approximately 10% last year and 11% in 2013.

Overall for the year I'm still ahead with my 401k. My scottrade I got in recently so it won't be much worse.

My 403b fund chart over its lifetime shows this quarter as a minor fluctuation down, but still minor. But tighten up the dates to the past 2 years and ouch, it looks bad.

Sort of like seeing the Himalayas from space as opposed to the seeing them on the ground. "Minor" is a very relative term sometimes.

Yes, September was a terrible month, driving the crappy 3Q performance. October has been much better w/ both the Dow and S&P500 up more than 8%. Hopefully 4Q will be better....

My 401k has been fine, but my investing account has gone to shit. I'd be better off investing in the lottery based on the last few months

Been good for my TSP this quarter. There were ups and downs but mostly ups. Hope things pick up for the rest of you.
