All at work, I don't do this shiite at home.
nice... i was just looking at their 4-bay for around $600.

i'm not sure what to say about that.

i guess mine is a baby rack compared to that?

i'm not sure if you took that from your work when they were throwing it away or you just have some serious shit going down over there.

what percentage of that do you use?

Here's a more recent pic of the setup I have.

My job gives me lots of perks as you can see. I use part of it for personal purposes, but the majority of it is for work...to help me be a better engineer and to provide live demos of technology for my clients. To keep this on topic, I have about 28 TB of storage in that rack. Another 19 or so TB of storage which I've taken off line and may repurpose.

To go off topic, that rack is only part of my setup in my server room. Here's the other part:

I actually added up my power usage last year due to a conversation I was having with a friend about installing solar on my house. I used about 30 MegaWatts of power in a year. Fortunately, my per KW charge is pretty cheap for being in an urban area at 11 cents/KW.

My power bill and usage should go down as I'm using more energy efficient gear in that rack now. I can tell by the lower heat output in that room and the UPS reporting longer a run time. At one point, the run time of the UPS with all the equipment I had powering it was about 30 minutes. Now it's around 60 minutes.

It's crazy that DC has power rates as low as Washington state. Must be a perk of being the capital.

My location is actually a bit further than DC. I'm in the outer Maryland suburbs.

I don't have a rack that nice, and I run a small city and PD. IF I count the two Buffalo TeraStations, I might have just a bit more active storage than you., but nothing like the spare you have waiting to put to good use.
