I use mine occasionally, it opens the trunk, pulls half the roof out then opens the trunk the other way so you can access larger items in there. After you're done you then have to put the roof back down into the trunk. It's a bit time consuming .... but it really wows the onlookers when you do it from the curb...

Boot=Trunk in the UK/Oz
Hood=Roof in the UK/Oz When the roof/hood is down (open) you double press and hold the boot/trunk release button. So press once, then quickly press again and hold. The roof/hood part closes and then the boot/trunk opens - allowing you to get to your luggage. Its a fine art to getting it right! I seem to recall in reverse you just keep the unlock button pressed? I think... David (UK)

And note it is a very quick double press. I never could get mine to work until a salesman showed I wasn't fast enough. I don't remember the close procedure.

The problem with all this is that if you miss the double click on the open you set off the panic alarm . Plus, considering the battery warning on opening/closing the top, it hardly seems worth it! |

As mentioned above, it is a "Quick" double press and hold on the second press....failure to do that is indicated by the panic alarm. No-one said BMW made it easy
Let's call the roof/hood/top of the bleeding car.... the "Top" to avoid future misunderstandings etc.

Interesting point about 2 CA keys in the car simultaneously.
When on trips by wife and I each carry our own key for whichever BMW we're taking. There are numerous reasons for this, all of them sufficiently good that we'll always do it in the future. Our 7 year-old cars don't have CA, but my new Z4 and her ordered X3 do. I could see this making things fairly interesting. My supposition is that if the key slot is used, the car will only pay attention to they key in the slot. I can't see a good solution for seat memory, etc. though. |

Having provided the neighbors with a few hours of entertainment, I found the best way to handle 2 CA fobs in the car is to not use the CA feature to open the car, but to unlock the car by pressing the unlock button on one of them, which the car then accepts as the master key for that driving session, and seems to set the seat for that key. |

A day or two after picking up our ED car at the Welt I accidentially had both CA FOB's in the car. The instuments would occasionly flip back and forth from english to metric - as I had set up my key for metric units. Removed the battery from 2nd key so I could keep it in the vehicle or on person while on our 3 week trip. Other than that the CA still continues to funtion properly.
