Z4 Turbo Write up
I came across a interesting write up on the Z4 Turbo. I translated it in Google German to English (hope it did not screw it up too much).
Translated Site CLICK PS1. Of course you all know you can Translate other pages of this site in the 'Google Translator" this site has some interesting pages so I wanted to share it with you. PS2. Be sure to visit the Museum Page ... If you are ever in Germany I highly recommend to visit the BMW, Mercedes and Porsche Museums. I made it a boys trip to Germany in 2009 and enjoyed myself immensely

I have no doubt that BMW can do turbos. 1250hp from 1.5l in 1985, the same year my Dodge Daytona Turbo was 146hp from 2.2l.
I have an old picture of that motor from a trip to the BMW Zentrum museum in SC.

Formula 1 technical group is once again proposing to use 4 cylinder 1.6 litre turbocharged engines starting in 2013 - as a cost savings measure. Maybe BMW will once again enter F1 as a engine supplier or manufacturer. They did a quick exit at the end of the 2009 F1 season with their tails tucked between their legs. 1 GP victory in 4 seasons as a Constructor (BMW chassis & engine) and a handful of wins as a engine supplier in 5 seasons prior (powering Williams and Sauber cars). Could't quite get the V-10's or V-8's dialed in to complete with the powerplants of the big boys at Ferrari, Renault, or McLaren/Mercedes.

I have the Porsche Museum book... A great book talking about that car from day one... I am hoping and believe that BMW should have something similar, does anyone know where I can find that book online??? (I know, I googles it and couldn't find what I am looking for)...

F1 is very complex world now days. It's very difficult to balance power, fuel usage, an now, durability. Trying to remember - seems that teams are limited to one or two engines for an entire season. Gone of the days of building it good enough to last one or two races. I wonder if BMW is willing to take the risk of developing an engine?

I think we'll see the return of turbos in 2013. It would be interesting if BMW anticipated this so they left in 2009 and looked at returning 4 years later. They are heading toward turbo-powered cars now, and if they came into F1 supplying winning engines, that would be a huge win for BMW in the minds of consumers and enthusiasts around the world.
