fuel pulley thing in trunk

There's a green (fluorescent?) tab pulley thing in the trunk that I assume you pull to release the fuel door (in case it doesn't open the normal way). I haven't pulled mine but the string is extremely long it seems, slack for at least a good 5"...how long is it when it finally opens the fuel latch?

No, this one has the 'fuel pump' illustration and is smallish circular, the triangle one is the trunk opener in another location.

It's that little green circle part in the photo.

I've seen this when I had the bumper off. It goes around to the fuel flap. Seems to have a lot of slack in it.
