Anyone tried the latest Lux Angel Eyes products

Hi all

Looking to sort out my 'orrible yellow pre LCI Angel eyes and have come across Lux's latest H8 160 and H8 V5.

I saw a post last year about the V4 product which was pretty mixed so just wondered if anyone has experience of the latest ones ?

Not necessarily looking to install them myself so just interested in how they look/work. Or any better alternatives ?

I have the H8 160 on my Z4. The lights are much brighter than the stock ones and it doesn't look aftermarket at first glance. Most people think it's stock, which is a good thing. The only thing that bothers me is when the stock angel eyes slowly dimmed and turned off, the new ones flash a couple of times before turning off. But overall it looks much better than the stock amber lights IMHO. The installation was quite tricky for me. Where as the stock bulbs are easily unscrewed or put back in, the LUX angeleyes are pretty hard to screw in or out, because you can't quite get a proper grip to tighten it and space is very limited. I don't have any other pictures of the lights than just this one.

I installed the LUX H8's recently but in my 2010 328iT. Vast improvement over the dull orange OEM halos. Installation wasn't too difficult and they have detailed installation instructions on their website.

Thanks Wositsch - they look amazing ! Do you think the H8 160 is a better bet than the H8 V5 then ?

That depends on your personal preference. The H8 V5 are color adjustable to 9 color settings (from 5000K to 12000K). Where as the H8 160 are fixed at 7000K, but are brighter than the V5 (2400 lumen vs 3200 lumen). Both cost the same, so it's really down to you to choose which one.

I just installed a set of h8 160, so far so good.

+1 on it being hard to twist to lock, use a small pair of pliers.

How is the light color of the H8 160 in comparison with the OEM Xenon headlights?

I still have the Lux V4 and feel that only the setting with 5200K correctly matches the color temperature of the Xenon headlights, with higher color temperatures appearing too blueish. I also had Mtec V3 for a short time, same issue...

Best regards

To me the H8 160 appear quite white. Maybe a bit blueish yes, but a very subtle kind of blue. Kind of cold or cool white look. I am more bothered by the thickness of the rings, than by the color. The Bigger ring appears slimmer than the smaller one. But that's just nitpicking.

Hi all

So I had the H8 160 work done and really pleased with the result. Maybe not quite as intense and bright a white as OEM LCI lights but a million times better than old yellow ones !

I see what Wozich means about the flickering when they turn off - this is not ideal, does anybody know of a way to get this fixed/changed ??

Thanks a lot!

So the light is fine but the flickering when turning the headlights off appears to be a problem (LED angel eyes are not street legal in Germany and I do not want to point authorities to this issue of my car).

Afaik it's only possible to have the the car coded (e.g. www.mycarly.com) so that the welcome lights are switched on and off "hard" without dimming/flickering. So probably no chance to change this issue with the normal headlight.

So I will stick with my Lux V3 :/

Thanks Mick so do I understand you correctly - if I get the mycarly product, I can recode the car to have a hard switch off thereby removing the flicker ?

@SWW33

Yes, but it is my understanding that removing flickering is only possible to a certain extent:

I have only found one single setting in mycarly to remove flickering when the "welcome light" is turning on/off (the lights that engage when you open the car): http://bit.ly/1TBE7kM - E89 / "Welcome Lights" / "standing lights front" / "Turn on hard".

But apparently there is no setting for turning on/off hard/soft the angel eyes under other conditions, e.g. when you switch on/off the lights manually or when you turn the car off.

On the other hand, I do not know if the welcome light is the only situation with flickering angel eyes. In this case, mycarly is a proper solution. I have used mycarly to add the turning lights to the welcome light and to disable flickering (and bulb check) as I have replaced the OEM bulbs with LED lights similar to these (right: LED, left: OEM bulb): http://bit.ly/1RolP7p

Best regards

Mick

Got mine H8 160 today. Pictures and more info coming later. It's bit chilly outside at the moment (-25 C / -13 F).

We have a section on our website already for this: http://www.luxangeleyes.com/pages/da...pare-challenge Many people start with something "cheaper" and end up getting LUX in the end because they are not satisfied.

Installed the H8 160's this evening. I like the 7000K color and the difference between the Xenon driving light color is minimal, IMO. Vast improvement over the stock H8's. The 160's have a similar color to our Q5 DRL's, which i always liked. Overall happy with the LUX product with the couple of noted nags.

LUX - The OD of the 160's 3 locking tabs are about 0.4 mm larger than the stock H8's, which makes the installation into the socket nearly impossible in the tight quarters of the E89 buckets. Solved that with a slight file job on the end of each tab. Post minor surgery the 160's then inserted easily into the mating sockets. I had expected a little better than this for a $200 product - so get on that tolerance stack up or QC drift. The now obsolete large heat sink fins is another nag requiring the use of small channel locks to twist the units into lock position.

The 3 tabs were designed liek that on purpose actually to provide a very snug and tight fit. We have tested these on the Z4 headlights and purposely designed them this way. THese are actually NOT designed to twist into place all the way as that helps to optimize the brightness of them. by filing them down and forcing them to twist they are probably not as bright for the outer rings.

I'm not sure why you said that the heatsink is obsolete either. LED's generate a lot of heat which needs to be dissipated, and that is the purose of the base heatsink. If you dont have this then the LED's will burn out. Next time please send me a message if you have any questions about the installation

Well you could of written that on the box or added an installation note. I almost lost my mind and hand trying to twist them...

understood. We dont have any pictures to make an install guide for the Z4's however so that is why we haven't done this so far.
