292 wheels: do they look like high heel shoes to anyone else?
Thought I'd start and argument...
The reason I decided to go for the 35i instead of the 30 i was two fold. The twin sided exhaust sounded better than the single sided, and the 30i standard wheels look like 5 pairs of ladies high heel shoes (to me, anyway) Of course, then they released the 35is and everything changed again... Those 326M wheels, yum! Anyone else think the 292 wheels look like shoes? It was enough to put me off the car (I know you can change them). I see so few picks of the 292's that I am starting to wonder how popular they are.

Its only the 30i owners who would get stuck with the 292s and have to change them...
IMO the 25i, 35i and 35is alll get a normal looking wheel option as standard... You do seem to fall into the 35i bucket. I like the 296 wheel though. 19" helps to compliment the exaggerated lines of the new Z4.

I really liked the 3.0 sport wheels like shown but I ended up with the 3.5i because of the mid range power and DCT.

So, you are saying that the 296 wheels makes the Z looks like it is dressed in drag? |

For those of you not as OCD as me, here are the wheels I refer to. I present the 292 rims. Standard issue on the sDrive30i down under. (hope that works - call me a noob) Now, seriously... They look like high heels!! or am I nuts?

To be honest, the rear and trunk is high if you view it from aside. This makes 17" rims look really small. My previous E85 had 17" and I liked this size. 18" looked big on the E85. But for the E89 this is a different story.

OK - I am an Australian - therefore verry verry slow.
When I say high heels I mean the spokes of the wheels are in the shape of a pair of high heel shoes. Each of the five spokes is a stilletto heel and shoe shape - 5 in total spaced radially around the wheel hub. ARGHHH!

My MY11 3.0 Sports upgrade package shipped with 276's as standard (Canada), which I really like.

I never noticed the striking comparison, but you are right! If they wanted to offer a turbine style wheel, they should have brought back the 106's that were offered on the sport package 03-05 E85. They were nice looking turbines.
The 292's are not the greatest looking wheels offered on the Z4.

You know. It is entirely possible. The Z4 was designed by a woman. Maybe she did those wheels shaped like that for fun... And they stuck.

I really liked the artistry! And Richard's theory may be right, even if it was subliminal. Damn ugly wheels though. Think of the extra money they make by making us option in better ones.

Well I had better be the voice of dissent.
I chose the 292s, though it has to be said it was also a budget influenced choice. In the flesh the higher cost wheels, to my eyes, look like they are emulating an older form of 'spoke' wheel in thicker alloy form, and for me it just doesn't work. The sheen is wrong for it, the thickness is wrong. Happy to be disagreed with on this, each to their own! In my sartorial defence, having read through these forums, I feel I am at least reasonably qualified; I choose not to wear a baseball cap - either way around, and wouldn't be seen dead in a fanboy tee-shirt whatever the logo. Get yourselves a Panama and some tailored shirts gents and you will be pulling classier women than those wearing 292 high heels Oh and you don't get pools of water stagnating in the bottom of them after you clean them either... |

Careful McBeee,
Glasshouse Alert! Someone might take exception to your "mud flaps" on a sports car. Over here its like admitting you like Michael Bolton music.... Dr Stig.
