BMW Protection for exterior/interior

Hi Guys,

My dealer has offered a protection plan that involves the exterior being trested so that it resists scratches and I theoretically I never have to polish it. They will also do the interior with a kind of scotch guard treatment.

As my interior is nappa white I asked that if they do this do BMW then guarantee that any marks/stains that cannot be removed by myself, using the relevant products is then something the dealer would take care off (I was thinking of jeans ink etc). He answered (to my suprise) yes. They discounted the protection from £349 to £249 as a special deal.

I was wondering if anyone else has had this done? or needed to go back to the dealer to get them to sort a stain etc out?....I get the feeling this may just be salesman bullshit and the guarantee will have a whole lot of get out clauses. With having a white interior this seems like an offer that sounds to good to be true which normally means it is.

I had Jade Grey leather on my old 325i coupe, and although it was a bit darker than white, it was still very light. After 2.5 years, the drivers seat showed a touch more wear than the rest of the seats (mainly due to me wearing jeans a lot of the time), but using a good leather cleaner and conditioner did make a difference.

My advice would be to avoid the BMW Supaguard treatment (on both the exterior and interior), and maybe look at getting it professionally detailed. You should check out http://www.detailingworld.co.uk for more info, but basically a good polish followed by a good wax or sealant will help protect it. I think its basically impossible to apply a coating to the bodywork that will prevent scratches, unless its a clear plastic film!

Hi,

Many thanks for your reply, If I remember the conversation correctly they said it helps prevent rather than stops scratchs. I think essentially it creates a hard plastic film on the exterior paint work.

Did you get offered the same thing when you purchased your Z4?

Nice motor by the way :-)

I'm think the Supaguard is a dealer option, but can't remember being offered it to be honest. I know a lot of folk, especially the pro's on detailingworld.com don't really rate it. I'm sure it will give some protection for a few months, but i wouldn't rely on it over a long period of time, especially with the weather we get in the UK! You won't go wrong with a good carnauba wax.

I see in your other posts you collect her tomorrow - whats the full spec of your car? You will love it - look forward to seeing the pics.
