What are your plans?




If anyone has been to Cancun, do you have any recommendations? We plan on taking the Chichen Itza tour. If You're American, how did you manage your finances as in did you go with cash? Or did you use your credit/debit card?

Staying home and enjoying time off from work!

I've been to Cancun two or three times and it's always been a blast! Where are y'all staying and is this your first time? IIRC, the resorts on the northern end of the peninsula have the clearer/ more-blue water. I've been on the tour you mentioned and it's awesome, definitely a must do.

Another activity I would recommended if you're the outdoorsy/ active type: Xplor! http://www.xplor.travel/

As far as money goes, use your credit card (given you have no foreign transfer/ ATM fees) whenever you can. Most place in/near the resort/hotel accept USD. Every time I've been, I've used a combo of USD (cash) and card, I never needed to use local currency.

Good websites for travel questions are Trip Advisor (DUH!), but utilize their forums section.

If you take cash, take small bills. All the resorts we went to (Moon Palace) they were happy to take our $20, and give us back pesos.

I expected that, don't know why my (Mexican) wife expected change in USD.

Since I went Moon Palace, it was all-inclusive, I only had to buy Cuban cigars and whatever we did in town or on the C-I tour.

Me, I'll be driving in LA traffic with a few billions of my closest friends and driving enthusiasts. Son comes in Thursday night, drive to-from LAX. Friday we drive to Temecula, son is staying at different relative's house than us, so I'll have to shuttle them around. Then we come back Sunday so we can drive to Santa Barbara. All this driving leaves precious little time for drinking

Me and my wife went to Live Aqua in Cancun 2 years ago. It's an adult-only resort. Arguably, one of the best in the area imo.

They have reasonable deals on LivingSocial as well.

It's an all-inclusive.
If you are doing sight-seeing outside of your resort, then I would recommend NOT doing an all-inclusive as ALL your meals are paid for in advance, and it doesn't make sense to go out of your resort for anything more than a few hours and have to spend money on food and travel when you have the best choices available within your resort.

If you've never been to an all-inclusive before, it's incredible and there's so much going on within the resorts that it doesn't make sense to leave it, especially because you've already paid for all the amenities at the resort as well as the food. Most all-inclusive's will have several different restaurants within.

If you do want to go to see some of the attractions, note that they're usually a good couple hours away from the resort area's, so that can take up a lot of your time in a day. Unless you find something close to your resort.

My opinion, I go to the all-inclusive's with no intention of leaving the resort. Just to relax and chill by the pool.


As for finances, I usually just go to my local bank a few days to a week in advance and get the currency exchanged into pesos. TD Bank offers a flat fee of $7.00 i believe to do the currency swap. For me and my wife, we converted about $500 USD into pesos, and it ended up being more than enough.

This is my first time ever, we're staying at Sunset Royal Beach & Resort. It is all inclusive. I'm probably going to bring 300-400 cash, i'll also have my Debit card. Thanks i definitely needed your expert input.

My friends wanted to convert to Pesos but i was thinking that Cancun is such a major tourist place that they should accept USD easily if we stayed within the resort.

I just showed them your reply to verify that there's no need to exchange currency.

Definitely an all inclusive, however there will be days that we'll be out of the resort for majority of the day. I understand it's like a waste of money to pay for all-inclusive and leave your resort to pay for food elsewhere but we got some good deals at the resort and i definitely want to do some outdoor activities.

So you think it'll be cheaper to get the exchange here in US? we leave in two days and i doubt i'll be able to get Pesos from my local bank before then. I'll check what the exchange fee is, if i do it in Mex.

I hope i don't need to convert, i just want to go with and spend dollars, i don't have time and patience to convert.
