Typical Dallas summer right now, mid-levels on humidity. Problem is - there is no "cooling down" right now. They just need to figure this crap out, just start replacing parts if they have to - too many of us have had this issue.

I experienced an issue with my AC not blowing or coming on at all even though the lights on the dash showed correctly when i first got my Z. I learned that the only thing that fixed it was to turn off the vehicle and let it sit for a bit. It didnt have to do with temperature outside or the vehicle the AC didnt come on when the vehicle was started. (sorta like the computer never initiated it). I took it in but they never found any issues. Since then after many updates later (not for the AC) it doesnt happen any longer or at least hasnt happened in a few years now. I hope that it stays that way.
keep us posted.

Well - part got replaced - will have to get receipt and post the exact verbiage - but this time they actually have a test that was called out that was performed. Wondering if enough complaints forced them to build a test....

I have had this issue since I have had my car... same deal. Dealer could not replicate the issue and did not replace the parts when it was under warranty.
The only thing I could think causes this to happen is if you open the door, sit in the car and do not start the car while leaving the door open for an extended period of time will cause the A/C to die. Solution: Suck it up and drive in 115+ weather here in AZ without A/C or leave the car closed for hours and come back to a hopeful reset and NEVER sit in the car, leave the door open and not start it.

I literally had this happen within 24 hrs of picking up my car.
I remember reading something on one of the forums about it. Let the car completely power down. Push the start button "first" then push the brake. Have no idea why this works, I have never had it not work. 100% success over 2-1/2 years of ownership. Vs. The dealers who seem mostly clueless about this issue even though it has been effecting the E89 for years. Try it! |

Dead Control panel happened to me for the first time last night. (I had a 2009 35i that this happened once) I have a 2012 35is. The only thing I did different about this start was: I was waiting for the wife to Finnish her meeting ... Sitting in the car about 30 min, nothing on and the key in my pocket. When she came out, I put foot on the brake and pushed the start button. No control panel. It did come back after sitting an hour at home. Maybe since it operates on a bus system the controller needs some time to establish the lan. I don't usually just get in and hit the start button... I Get in, fish the phone out of the pocket, look for cheap sunglasses then hit the button. Maybe the car just needs to be awakened for a tad longer before we hit the start button. Just by 2 cents.

Just looking over my receipt for this troubleshooting:
IHKA intermittently failing, ran defaults, ran relates test plans. Found IHKA faults. Replaced and sent to programming. Programmed with CAS. Hope this helps if you can decipher what IHKA is... |

IHKA stands for "Intergriertes Heizung und Klima Automatic" or direct translation to English "Integrated Heat and Climate Automatic." It's just a fancy name for the physical HVAC control panel. In the E89's case, the 4 circles and 2 dials.
Based on Lurcher's receipt, it looks like the actual hardware is defective and would need replacement to permanently fix the problem. This happened to me a 2 or 3 times when I first got the vehicle (very hot summer day). It just started working on its own again after a few start-ups and hasn't happened since. |
