V-spoke 296 rims fit all E89s?
Hi,
Would the V-spoke 296 rims fit all E89s? I have a 3.0 E89 and currently have the V-spoke 294 rims. I can get the 296 rims for a good price and would like to keep them for when the RFT runs down to swop out to non RFT on the 296. |

Yes sir. They do fit. And in my opinion, they are the best looking OEM rims on a E89.

Slow down a bit there, I have 296's and so does Rolf-Dieter. (Read his posts about cracked wheels)
What size ...19" ? If you put RFT's on them you might be on a slippery slope. I hope you are thinking non-RFT's..then all "should" be OK.

Ditto. Had two bent 296's with runflats. They do look nice, but are no match to rough roads with runflats.

I've had the 296's with non-RFT's since I got my car May last year and have experienced no issues up to now. But I have to say I also put a larger size of tires than the original ones (235/35/19 front and 265/30/19 rear) and I'm very careful when driving (try to avoid potholes).
However if you live in a region with rather bad roads it would be smarter not to choose 19's over 18's, just my two cents Grtzzzz |

The problem with the rear 19 inch wheels in my humble opinion is that every little bump is transferred int the wheel and as it does stress builds up. With the camber at 2.5 degree on the rear wheels the inner outer diameter of the wheel sees most of the load. One day the build up stresses will let go and the result will be a crack (just slowly bend a paper clip back and forth, you get the point) . First a thin hairline crack then as one continues driving on it the hairline crack opens up and you will loose air. As you loose air the stress transferred into the wheel now will open up the crack more and more. Now BMW has a runout tolerance (in case you don't know it is checked with a dial indicator on the outer rim the dial cannot read more then 0.300 mm that is 0.012" as the wheel is rotated in a machine). Naturally an open crack will not pass the BMW tolerance and they will declare that you went thru potholes. What I am saying is you can be as careful as you possible can. We both know that if you travel on a highway at 70 MPH and approach a bridge or an overpass you don't know what the step difference is between the road surfaces (be both I am sure have felt the horrible BUMP going over them). All this will transfer stress into the wheel with RFT on account of the steel shims in the sidewall of the RFT. In addition to this tires do run hot and the steel shims in the RFT make the situation worse IMO. Now on my summer vacation we took a 4 hour thrip thru the Mohave Desert. the temperature in the valley at 6 feet above seal level there was 120 F my tires were very hot. I have read a lot about wheels, RFT etc. I know Bridgestone has now what they call a Generation 3 RFT on the market, all tested etc. They are better according to the VP of BMW Engineering. The problem is the 3rd Generation of Bridgestone RFT is only available in Japan right now even Tire Rack told me they are not expected in North America any time soon. If you should read about Generation 3 you will note that they even have now "Cooling Fins" on the sidewall of the RFT I wonder why What is a scheme is that BMW puts such crap of a tire on a fine automobile. I just removed my 296 wheels and RFT set put on my winter set For Photos CLICK on My Garage (below) then Photo Page 8 I will run them this winter and by spring will know what I do with my RFT set.
