How to install Windows Xp on Windows 8?

I bought a new laptop (does not have a cd drive) and it comes with a Windows 8.
I want to install Windows XP instead, I have the Windows XP installation CD, but not sure how to do it, since the laptop has no cd-rom.
Any ideas?

You can install VirtualBox (free) with WinXP on it.

Alternatively, you can image your Wiin8, using something like Acronis TrueImage Home, then reformat your drive with 2 main partitions, and have both OS running side by side (but you can only be in one at a time).

Finally the answer to your question, if you want to wipe the Win8 OS and install XP, and you have the CD, just put the CD in and reboot the machine. You should get a "press any key to boot from CD ROM message" when the machine starts up again.

If the above doesn't happen, then you need to check in BIOS that CD-ROM is in the list of boot devices. This is unlikely, as usually it already is.

My personal preference, if you are needing it for just 2 or 3 legacy programs, and are fine with Win8 for your day to day, would be to do VirtualBox or some other virtualization software to accomplish this goal.

Hope this helps.

The thing is that I don't need the Windows 8.
The problem I have is that the laptop did not come with a cd-rom.
I have an external drive that I can use to wipe it, but then the laptop my read my external drive because it would need a driver.

You need to burn the CD to an ISO image, stick it on a USB drive, then boot from the USB and you'll be able to install.

Google is your friend on how to do all of this

Edit: this is wrong - see my post #10 - no ISO image needed.

Good luck getting drivers for XP. Most laptops have custom chipsets and XP is so old and out of support you shouldn't be surprised if certain devices don't work.

Actually I think I was wrong in my earlier post. Too many downloaded ISO images in my life. You do not need to make an ISO image, since the USB stick will not contain an image, but the actual files, which you have already on you WinXP CD.

You need to get a USB stick, make it bootable:
http://www.intowindows.com/bootable-usb/

Then just copy the contents of the WinXP CD to root of the USB stick.

Finally, in BIOS, make sure to set USB as a boot drive option, and place it first in the ordered list of boot options - usually it is not there by default.

It prevents from downgrading.
Is there a way to convert from Win 8 64bit to Win 8 32bit?

It shouldn't prevent anything. Once you format the drive, it is considered blank and you can install whatever you like on it.

Wiped clean. Changed the boot option in bios to Cd-rom
Insert Win XP CD, getting an error..
PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM
Reboot and Select Proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot device and press a key...
