Seems like a lot of misinformation on the 8at in this thread. It does rev match on downshifts and there is a "DS" mode from moving the shifter to the left, just like the dct.

As for the different crank shaft in that version of n55, that sounds a lot like 35is owners insisting the n54 in their car is different. Also, interesting to note that the f30 335 powerkit for cars with a mid 2014 build and later gives +45hp instead of +20hp as in 235/135 and earlier f30 335.
I was told the LSD would be in the $1.1k range, but then again, not something I'm considering for this vehicle.

That's about right for the part. Or is that the installed price?

If so, which shop? I'd like a quote!

I was told it would be done on the line (it's going to be an option at time of order). There are many other options they'll be making available (for Canada anyway):

1. xDrive
2. Softtop vert
3. LSD
4. HUD
etc.....

The dealer I do business with is BMW of Mississauga.

Correction on the TT. It's a TWIN scroll SINGLE turbo. My mistake. I jumped the gun on the "twin" piece.

In any event, definitely the car for me, regardless of "standard 8-speed auto", DCT or LSD etc.

1) Am I using the wrong wording here? I feel pretty sure that if it rev matched like the DCT it wouldn't jerk the car on downshifts. There wouldn't be any engine braking during the shift. Anyway, I have had two friends drive my car who came from 8AT equipped BMWs, and they both commented that the main difference between the 8AT and the DCT is the way it downshifts.

2) The DS mode is the sport mode I was referring to. When did I say it does not have a sport mode? The DCT offers different automatic modes such as normal+D, Sport+D and, Sport+S etc where the shifts are done at different rpms and at different speeds, the 8AT simply has two modes, a sport and a normal behavior. I hope this if not misinformation. What I mean is that if you put the 8AT in DS mode and change from eco pro to sport+, it won't change behavior like the Z4 DCT.

I did not mean to sound wrong. Like those 35is owners.

When you put the 8AT in DS mode and change from eco pro to sport+, it does change the transmission behavior (i.e. 7th and 8th gear not used in sport+, but used in other modes).

I live with both 8AT and 7DCT daily and while there is definitely a difference between the two, it isn't huge. It is most noticeable downshifting into 1st gear. It is rougher in the 8AT since it is a torque converter based gearbox. the actual execution of the shift is pretty quick though

Dave, that's awesome the LSD will be done on the assembly line. you should totally get that option!!

Alright, that is news to me then. It did not feel that way in the M135i I drove, but I might have jumped to conclusion.

Are you sure 8th gear is still used in DS mode when in comfort?

I can't access the thread. It seems that way to me, that 8th gear is used.

One thing to keep in mind, there were minor changes in the software across the years. For example, in my 2013 335, the auto stop/start will still turn off the motor if the gearbox is in D mode, and the chassis is in sport+ mode. For 2014, the auto stop/start will not be used at all once sport+ chassis mode is selected.

And we are comparing a China market 135 you drove for a little while, with OPs Canada market 235 and my US market 335

back on topic... we will miss you on the Z forums OP. Do you do plan to do track days? I often go to TMP or DDT tracks when I am in Toronto

Hey, if I can go in stock rental cars I don't underestand why people with $$ BMWs with "m sport" packages and power adders wouldn't want to go....

I'd like to join one day but my Z4 is my only car and if I have an accident at the track, then it's game over for tranquility.

Hey Dave, so the car you test drove perhaps is the 8AT and M235i, not is?

Anyway, doesn't seem to be a biggie in differences, still a nice model.

HPDE insurance will fix that concern

Also, DDT and TMP are pretty much go kart tracks. They are small low speed toy courses. You have to really try to hurt yourself. This isn't Mosport big track or Tremblant

Agreed, 235 is a nice car

Hi Tranquility,

Likely. I'll be checking the site again. Wouldn't be the first time I've made a mistake or misunderstood the dealer.

In any event, either way it's a beautiful car and can't wait to take delivery in March!

Nick,

Just checked the U.S. configurator and the LSD is a option now, but a whopping $2.9kU.S.!!

That probably translates to roughly $3.5k up here. DEFINITELY not something I'll be adding at that price.

I saw that too Dave. I was really hoping it was a $1.1k option
