Code Reader - Autel AL301 Problems?

I just purchased a Autel AL301 OBDII code reader as recommended in a prior thread. Has anyone had a bad experience or problems with it's use or with the use of similar code readers? I simply want to read the problem code and clear the check engine light on my Z4 3.0i. Call me a "Nervous Nellie" but, with the extensive electronics/computerization on this car, I don't want to screw something up forcing me to make a trip to the dealer or worst than that have the car towed to the dealer. Any feedback welcome.

I have some cheap reader from ebay, reads/clears, no issues. Only time I'd be worried is if you had some more fancy thing that can do coding and start fiddling around with settings on the car.

Maybe you are interested in a bit more than reading error codes and have an Android smartphone or an Iphone:

Then you could use these adapters:

Best regards

Code readers dont program. They can clear codes but that is it. It isnt the same as flashing the ECU or anything so you will be good to go.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try it this weekend. Curious as to what is triggering the check engine light with only 9,000 miles on the odometer.
