Aircon whine on 3.0 unresolved - swopping over to 3.5
All,
From elsewhere in this forum you'll remember that I have had a constant issue with an annoying whining noise from the aircon when the outside temperature is higher than 25 degrees. One year later, BMW could still not resolve this issue. It seems like they will exchange the car now for me, but I will go for the 3.5 this time around, for fear of getting this issue again on another 3.0. I have seen some other complaints on 3.0's, but never on a 3.5. Most probably the 3.5 will be a manufacturing date of Sept/Oct 2010; any concerns that need to have with the HPFP on this manufacturing date? |

I have the same aircon whine however my dealer will not seem to acknowledge it as a problem. They tell me its some sort of compressor and it's normal. To be quite honest; I cannot stand the whine anymore as it drives me insane. Is it truly a normal thing or is my dealer simply trying to con me here?
Thanks |

Hi, I had that problem for 12 months on my 3.0 also. THe whining starts at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius. BMW tried all they could to resolve it with no luck and eventually said that they honenstly don't know what to try anymore.
I got the car swopped out and took the 3.5. No issues so far after one week, and it's been really hot...35 degrees C plus. I honestly don't think there is a cure for this whining, it drove me nuts. And it's more apparent on a manual, since it happens between 3000 and 5000 revs. |

I get this as well on my 3.0; I was told by the dealer it's the Aircon and it's operating as expected and nothing is wrong with the system. Apparently this happens on other models in BMW's line-up.
I suppose it's simply just poor design and the compressor just makes this noise. If I'm honest, doesn't bother me, as it tends to go away after about 10 minutes or so. Dave
