3.5is vs M front bumper

i always knewthat the 3.5is comes with the M aerodynamics package, but i was also looking at pictures of the M sports package that comes as an option on all Z4s and there is a small difference in the front bumper.

the only difference i can see is what BMW calls finisher struts in matt aluminium.

i think the pictures below will make it clearer.

the second picture is courtesy of flpnout

so my question is why are the two front bumpers different ? and is this the only difference ?

I asked myself the same question and I can't really see any difference between the 2 bumpers other than the one you've encircled Ghani.
the 2 strips does add some visual attraction to the bumper.

There is no difference between the two bumpers. The 35i M package and the 35is both use exactly the same Z4 M bumpers. But, as you pointed out the 35is has the thin horizontal members bisecting the opening.

I think it looks great either way, but IMO it looks a little less cluttered with out it. FWIW

Hi Ghani, Alekshop gave me the option to order the two slats, he recommended it looks better without it. If you compare to say... any other M bumpers like an M3 or 335is, they lack the silver trim. In the Z4's case, it helps distinguish it as a 35is model from the front. I preferred not to have it. If you go without it, you can add them later. It's just a trim.

personally I like that little bit of trim for the "iS", it just hints a little and ties into the mirrors. Now the grill I didn't like and changed it out.

Good call. Your car looks great. I'd suggest removing the side badging, though.

And just for comparison.....

Strange how tastes differ, personally quite like the silver kidneys - match the mirrors and spoiler inserts.

Ya, i can see that but for me the grill was too matching, if that makes any sense. I like a little more subtlety.

The Z4 is def coming off the back, I just haven't yet gotten up the courage to take dental floss and goo gone to that beautiful finish. I'm not sure about the side lettering yet.

Your grille looks GREAT. Go for the debadging. I know this will be a rehash of prior info, but FWIW, I used Goof Off. Apply a little to get a good soak, let it set for a minute or so, floss it slow and easy. With a decent soak they will come off very easily. I then washed the area really good, hit it with the buffer, and presto, like it was never there. Surprised myself how easy it was, and no damage to the finish.

Not necessary. I did hold a rag below the badges when I applied the Goof Off to preclude drooling. Let it soak a couple of minutes.

Also the diffuser is little bit different.
35is has two piece diffuser while M-sports bumper is just one.

It is specific. I think it's like 16.00 each.
