With the exception of cheap floor mats, no problem whatsoever with this car.

Almost 1 year, 7,000 miles.

No rattles in my Z4M.
I also have 02 Audi S4 with 70k+ miles=dead quiet.
My wife 04 Acura RL=no rattles.
I've driven all these cars over some awful New England roads and have hit some nasty pot holes.
Both cars very well made.
My other concern was the terrible reliability rating for BMW in the latest C.R.

I may go to Audi or Porche.

What is BMW thinking with the lack of QC?
That is very unfortunate, as it sounds like you have one of the very few Z4s with these issues.

Perhaps you would get more in a private sale.
I'm not looking to sell any time in the next 2-3 years. I'm too happy with the car to sell it.

The last place I'd check for a "quick status" on resale value is my dealer. They are like robots - programmed to give lowball trade-in prices.

No need play that game with them right now, especially since I will be keeping the car for another 2-3 years.

Used Z4 been in the garage more than in my possession for the first month, damaged seat on collection, failed rear indicator and roof refusing to go down. Seat repaired, new rear lights and new control units for roof. All is ok now just a real nuisance being without the car for 3 weeks!

Our car has about 6700km on it now and we've done the fuel pump recall once. Hopefully won't have to do it again for many years/miles.

From what I see regarding N54 3's these cars will be anything but trouble free.

here in Italy we had issues with 30i,early poroduction....
ticking noise from cold then after 3-4 minutes the engine was really quiet.BMW stated it was not something horrible, just a comfort reduction problem.....
my car after 4900kms has still that ticking noise, but it last 2 minute when wheather is really cold....
anyway at next inspection they told me they will upgrade software that will increase oil pressure when cold.
some people went to dealer and this upgrade solved the problem, before this dealer didn't know what to do, someone changed distribution, a guy from rome had a brand new engine, and after some miles I was told the ticking noise was still there....
No recall as there are no risk or big problem, only ticking noise....

I have the ticking noise. They tell me it is the injectors. Ie that it is normal operating noise.
Every turbo Z4 and 335 I have listened to with the bonnet up has made the same noise.

Ours has been in the dealer shop all week. We had a transmission fault code, passenger side seat sensor, and a couple of other issues. Supposed to be done today but I have my doubts.

I needed no more time to make a decision last month....

Mind you the Z is a fine car just a bit unpractical .... then there was this;-

- 2 rear wheels wore unevenly during a extended vacation trip.

- At 18,000 KM both rear wheels showed cracks one was replaced on the spot, the other back in Canada. One under warrantee the other not .. long story

- The HOFP issue

- The RFT issue

well let me see how well my new M3 will hold out ... time will tell, mind you there is always a bit of bad with the good in the case of the Z4 the pleasant memories of a fantastic US road trip will outweigh the bad moments I'm sure of it

Hi Guys!

I had to replace in warranty the transmission shaft of my 23i Steptronic after 9000km due to some clunking noises when starting-stopping and when the transmission shift down the gear. The mechanic tested the shaft alone and found it defective. I am still waiting my car back to evaluate the situation with the new shaft. My unit is 05/2009 built. So it may be a youth problem.

1 year, 6200 miles, absolutely no complaints. Maybe it's because I opted for the Extra Enjoyment Package!
