Rather then depending on a perfect seal, the top likely has a simple drain system designed into it. I bet some aspect of the carwash overwhelmed the drain, and it overflowed. Either that, or something got plugged up. Either way, that shouldn't happen.

I got caught in a heavy downpour a few weeks back, and the interior stayed bone dry, as I would expect it to.
it's a manual wash....no high pressure hose, no auto washing machine etc...juz my butler using bucket of water to wash it...

So sorry to see that terible pouring of water.
I have water leak from the roof as well, but it was just "dripping" into the rear boot and behind the left roll bar
BMW fixed it by removing the rear wind shield and resealed.
Now, the roof is sealed even after a heavy rain. :-)
PS: rear side window is still making rattle noises :-(

That's what I initially thought too (I think I read a warning in our manuals not to use high-pressure spray aimed at the roof's seals?).

Anyway, OP confirmed that he only washed w/ water+bucket, which is strange, because I assume that it must have rained sometime when he was driving the car, so why did it only occur when the car was washed? Or the roof wasn't closed properly? I dunno, I'm just guessing.

In any event, GL to the OP in fixing the prb.

just my opinion, i think bmw shud have tested their product , (e89 roof to be exact) under high pressure wash, normal wash, hand wash any types of wash before selling it to consumers....to check for leaking purpose.....i mean..come on..it's BMW for god sake! where's the QC ? i wonder how's the new SLK like....their magic sky glass is awesome!

@TO

We have reports in Germany concerning serious roof defects (>15.000 €!) when operating the roof at higher speeds than intended by BMW.

Do you entertain a "smart-top-module" or similar so that you may operate the roof while driving faster than 7kph? Or do you have one of the few faulty E89 models of early 2011 where operating the roof is unintentionally possible up to 30kph?

Did you ever operate the roof at higher speeds than 7kph and/or on bad roads?

Best regards

Mick

I would rather spend 19 sec more on the button than spending a few hundreds $ for smart-top and face serious problems

Not really wanting to get involved in this slanging match, but taking account of the OP's location, English might not be his first language. I suspect that if I had to go on one of his local forums I might sound considerably younger than 15 years old.

OP that's an awful lot of water from a simple hand wash. It's as if you found a hole in the seal and your "butler" is standing there with a hose on it. I live in the NW and, unfortunately, my car has seen plenty of heavy rain though without a hint of moisture in the cabin. Would love to see the video if you have it.

Yes, please buy something else.. starting to see far too many of them on the road.

Actually, with quick search of your other posts it's clear to me you were never really in the market anyway..., just trolling along.

as for my laptop goes, well, now i have excuse to get the new alienware m11x R3...
shit happen, i juz adapt!
Wow, we can all see that you certainly have started off on the wrong foot on this forum as a "newbie". Calling me names and all. That must make you feel more like a man, huh?

.. and what kind of reaction did you expect from me after that kind of attitude?

What you need to come to grips with, real fast, is the fact that people are going to voice opinions on this forum. The sooner you deal with that, the better off you'll be.

You should have been OVER IT yesterday!!!

So, the laptop getting waterlogged was more like a blessing, and it was kind of just a "sh&^ happen" kind of thing?
Yea Riiiiiight. So, then why did you bring it up in the first place?
Actually, here's what I think..... you are trying to make it seem like it's not a huge ordeal all of a sudden, Geez, I wonder why.

Go sell your car to Soomro. It sounds like he would just love to own the one and only waterlogged e89 on earth. The 2 of you deserve each other.

Ignorance is bliss.

Hey, if Soomro can hang on another 3 years I'll sell him mine. No water and no rattles at all, just like the vast majority of e89s.

If you did have a problem, then all you would need to do is remove it prior to going in

Those without a SmartTop do not know how amazing it is.

It's not simply not having to hold the button for 20 seconds. But I have no need to get into it.
I had my SmartTop installed the first week I got my Z4 and M3. I didn't know about it so it wasn't until a few months later I installed it on my 335i 2 years ago.
I won't ever own a vert without it :P (unless they don't make it for it)
