Front struts
I was told my front struts are shot at 42K miles and 7 years. They said all the fluid had leaked out. I have the more expensive struts for adaptive driving
I have changed springs and shocks on a Land Cruiser multiple times. Is this something easy I can do myself or better left to the dealer? A shock/spring on a land cruiser is about an hour per side. What would it be here on my Z4? They wanted to charge me $500 labor which seemed high

Who's "they"? Did they show you the evidence? If "all the fluid" had leaked out, it should have been apparent before this. If it's a dealer, get a second opinion/quote from a good idie shop.

It's a private shop. He offered to but when I figured out I could get the structs for $400 cheaper with the BMWCCA discount from the dealer then they wanted I went and took the car back.
Looking and verifying they need it would be first on the agenda. If I do it it I'll jack it up and look before changing. If I go the dealer route, I'll check it out on a lift. Trying to figure out if I should do it. On my Toyota I do all the axle work, brakes etc. BMWs made the brake rotors too complicated so I take it in for that. Trying to see if the struts are as easy as they are on my Toyota

This is a pretty easy job - nothing unusual.
But I do wonder about your statement "Brake rotors too complicated". These rotors and brakes are just like every other car on the road. Remove caliper, remove rotor, put new one on, install caliper, put in new pads. |

when I was looking to do this on my 2009 I read the rear rotors don't simply get replaced that more disassembly is required. Maybe I am mistaken as that was a while ago

To be fair, I haven't changed my rear rotors either but I wouldn't let the parking brake assembly dissuade you. I think you only need one of the scan tools to electronically open the parking brake or something like that. Plenty of new cars with rear electric parking brake, time for us to get into it! |

$3100 later including new brackets and an alignment all done. It is expensive due to the adaptive suspension. Without that option its in the 100's of dollars

Yep, mine failed as well and replaced. Paid about the same. An extended warranty would have covered this. So I immediately bought one and worth every penny since I have had some other issues come up, and all were covered.
