Didn't they have 2 model years within the first 20 months or so? 2009 in April 2009 and 2010 in September 2009?

you are correct - it was a weird e89 launch for model years with a quick change to 2010

The first three MY periods were weird. Only 6-7 month production spans for each 2009 & 2010 MY. Then they started building 2011 MY in Mar of 2010. Glad I got my N54 powered 6 Sp MT while they were in production!

True that. I got my 2011 in April 2010.

The front of the E89 with M Sport bumper is breathtaking.

The E89 has been in production since 2009, however, the E89 cars produced in 2009 were for model year 2010 - the first model year of the E89. There was no Z4 produced for the 2009 model year, the last E85 was model year 2008. BMW skipped the 2009 model year and introduced the 2010 E89 Z4 in 2009. So, model year 2010 through model year 2016 is the full model life, with 2010 until 2013 as the initial cars and 2014 through 2016 being the LCI models. This is how BMW treats all of its modern cars.

It stands to reason that there will be no model year 2017 Z4, and BMW will introduce the next car in 2017 as the new 2018 G(XX) Z(maybe 4, 5, 2, who knows).

Update: Somehow I missed this article, which has info about what's coming (albeit rumors).

I do recall my 09 Z4…. being listed as a 09, not a 10, on the contract….

Apologies gents. Being a 35is owner, I was remembering that model's life, since it was introduced in 2010. I failed to recall the 30i & 35i being introduced in 2009, with the 30i being replaced with the 28i in 2011.

Corrected.

Guys, can you elaborate on the 135 vs Z435 DCT differences? I drove a 135i DCT recently and didn't have any immediate objections. That might be because I drive my Z435 in "manual" mode exclusively and did the same with the 135

As for the Z5 rumormill, check out this other thread where the BMW rep who frequents our forum posted some info

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=883003
Sport+ Z4 35i DCT shifts are much quicker, in auto mode or manual (At least from my personal experience, both on the track and off)

It's not that the 135 DCT is bad per se.. it's just not as good.

Definitely go with the manual, it's so much more fun driving that
